On February 3, a train derailment near East Palestine, Ohio, transported hazardous chemicals, leading to widespread potential contaminants. However, tests by Cincinnati Water Works have shown that there is no detectable presence of the contaminants in the Ohio River. Results from the 111 water samples taken through February 14 show no results of any of the four chemicals, which are butyl acrylate, vinyl chloride, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, and ethylhexyl acrylate.

Tiffani Kavalec, chief of the Division of Surface Water at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, said the chemicals did spill into the Ohio River, and they are tracking it in real-time, estimated at a mile an hour, and will be in the Cincinnati area early next week. Cincinnati Water Works is continuing to monitor the water quality and optimize their treatment processes.

On Monday evening, tragedy struck the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, Mich. when 43-year-old Anthony McRae opened fire on students, leaving three dead and five injured.

Recently released court records show that McRae had previous felony charges for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. He later pled guilty to a misdemeanor for possession of a loaded firearm and completed 18 months of probation, which he was discharged from in May 2021.

McRae's father, Michael, reported that his son was increasingly reclusive and bitter after the death of his mother, Linda, further expressing that his son had grown “evil angry” and had “let himself go,” with his teeth falling out and hair uncut - resembling a “wolf man.” He reported that McRae had obtained another gun, but when questioned, McRae denied owning one.

Today, tragedy struck the El Paso community as a shooting at Cielo Vista Mall left one person dead and three others injured. El Paso Fire Department responded to the scene to treat the wounded and help police investigate. Sgt. Robert Gomez of the El Paso Police Department (EPPD) stated they had one suspect in custody, and they “believe there could be one outstanding.” Terrifyingly, Rober Gonzales, who was in the mall at the time, spoke of “people running to the exit” in fear of their lives. Understandably, the shooting evoked memories of a past tragedy in the El Paso community—the mass shooting at a Walmart in 2019 that left 23 people dead.

In light of the shooting, EPPD asked people to avoid the area while “multiple agencies responded to the scene.” Bishop Mark J. Seitz and Auxiliary Bishop-Elect

On Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of sending high altitude balloons into its airspace on round-the-world flights without permission. This accusation was made in response to an incident earlier this month when the US Military shot down a balloon they said was a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. China however counter argued that its balloon was actually a civilian research vessel mistakenly blown off course by strong winds.

The US White House flatly denied China’s claims and US intelligence officials are currently assessing the possibilities of the balloon being diverted off course or potentially deliberately maneuvered into the continental US. China however maintains that it had some ability to maneuver the balloon once it was over Montana and believes it was used to collect intelligence.

The diplomatic dispute between China and the US has been reignited and tensions are growing as both countries accuse each other of espionage. With students around the US discussing the shoot

Police have confirmed that a shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas has left one person dead and three people injured. Sgt. Robert Gomez of the El Paso Police Department reports that law enforcement has one person in custody and are currently searching for a possible second suspect.

Videos taken by witnesses at the scene show multiple mall storefronts closed with their security gates down and law enforcement vehicles parked outside. Ryan Mielke, Director of Public Affairs for University Medical Center El Paso, informed the public that two of the injured individuals were admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

Early reports indicate that the incident took place shortly after 5pm in the food court and Dillard's Department Store at Cielo Vista Mall. Witnesses recall running out of the mall in fear, with some evoking memories of the 2019 mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart that left 23 dead.

As of January 2021, the U.S. national debt has grown by over $8 trillion, pushing the total debt up to over $31 trillion. The Congressional Budget Office has now released a report saying the date when the government will no longer be able to pay its debt obligations fully is expected to fall between July and September 2023. This news has precipitated a fast approaching debate on the need to raise the debt ceiling between Congress and the Biden administration.

The 2008 financial crisis is largely to blame. Decreased tax revenue alongside increased government spending ballooned the national debt to a percentage point over the Gross Domestic Product; an amount not seen since the end of World War II.

The risk of a catastrophic default looms as the Treasury Department continues to use "extraordinary measures" to keep from running out of cash involuntarily. This is why it is so important for Congress to address this

On Wednesday February 15th, a somber atmosphere filled the Erie County courtroom as the families of ten victims of the Tops shooting experienced a harrowing reality. The man who gun downed their loved ones, Payton Gendron, was being sentenced and their voices would not be silenced. Gendron was found guilty of domestic terrorism motivated by hate and 10 counts of first-degree murder due to his rampage at Tops Supermarkets on Jefferson Avenue, Buffalo on May 14th.

The families filled the court with emotion as they took time to share stories of their precious lost ones. Deja Brown, daughter of Andre Mackniel, declared "I'll never forget him", while Kimberly Salter, wife of Aaron Salter, highlighted the color of red and black, the colors that symbolize bloodshed and still mourning, respectively. Ruth Whitfield's grand daughter, Simone Crawley, further moved the room with her words "

Dozens of Michigan State University (MSU) students accompanied by parents, friends, and FBI agents returned to the student union Wednesday, forced to relive the harrowing trauma of the nation's most recent mass shooting. The night before, students had rushed out of the building after shots rang out, leaving behind personal belongings in their rush to safety.

Connor Dunn, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student who was in the food court when the shooting started, remembered thinking the sound had been a dropped tray. When he heard the second and third shots, however, he realized something was wrong and quickly ran outside. Andrew Strominger, another sophomore who was working in the food court, ran out a back door to Campbell Hall and stayed there until law enforcement arrived.

The tragedy left three MSU students dead: Alexandria Verner of Clawson, Michigan; Brian Fraser of Grosse Point

On Monday, February 14th, disaster occurred in East Lansing Michigan. A shooting at Michigan State University (MSU) left one student dead and five others injured. Immediately, Michigan’s Democratic leaders rose to action with the quickness of politically savvy and vultures.

State Rep. Ranjeev Puri issued a statement starting with “fuck your thoughts and prayers”, and demanded gun reform. Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin went on to smear those who did not agree with her gun policy passionately causing an uproar.

Within the same day, reports of the shooter’s history of criminal activity had been made public with judicial records showing an arrest and charge of carrying a concealed weapon in 2019. He plead guilty to possession of a loaded fire arm and was on probation for a year and half prior to the incident.

On Monday night, tragedy struck Michigan State University as a shooting left three students dead and five more injured. Fear and chaos filled the engineering building as students sought out a place to hide and go through active shooter drills they had learned as a part of growing up. In the midst of the tragedy, some of the most prominent Democratic politicians in Michigan made divisive and controversial remarks aimed at attacking their political opponents.

Katie Birecki, a 2020 Michigan State graduate, was heartbroken to see the school she loves so much now be a crime scene. "I had classes in Berkey Hall my senior year and I was constantly at the Union - as that was the first stop on campus tours," she said. Another politician, Rep. Ranjeev Puri, opened his statement with “f**k your thoughts and prayers” before calling for “common sense gun reform” without citing

Michigan State University (MSU) students and community are once again in shock and mourning as a mass shooting incident on campus Monday night brought back haunting memories of a similar event that happened just 15 months ago in Oxford, Michigan.

"It was like reliving Oxford all over again," said Nicole Ferguson, a mother of an MSU student. She had been on the phone with her daughter when the young woman received text messages about the incident. Her daughter had only been attending MSU for about a month and was "unbelievably terrified" of the scary situation.

US Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Democrat, described the emotions at the news conference following the incident. “As a representative of Oxford, Michigan, I cannot believe that I'm here again doing this 15 months later. And I am filled with rage that we have to have another press conference to talk about our

Residents in East Palestine, Ohio are calm amidst the uproar of a train derailment earlier this month. After Ohio Governor Mike DeWine conducted water testing by the Ohio EPA, results returned showing no detection of contaminants in raw water from the five wells that feed into East Palestine’s municipal water system. Residents relying on private wells are still advised to have their water tested by an independent consultant, while those relying on the municipal system will receive treated water.

DeWine also shared that the wells supplying the municipal water system are safely situated below the surface and covered with a steel casing. This shields the water from sheer levels of contamination associated with the derailment, forgoing any concern for citizens using municipal water.

The Ohio EPA has stated that the results from the combined, treated water from all the five wells showed no signs of contaminants associated with the derailment, reassuring residents of the safety of their

On February 15th, the race for the Premier League title will become a little clearer. Arsenal will take on Manchester City in a thrilling mid-week clash at the Emirates Stadium. The two teams are engaged in a tight battle for the league title, with Mikel Arteta looking to capture his maiden championship as a manager. But standing in his way is his former boss, Pep Guardiola, who has a wealth of league titles under his belt.

The game is being broadcast live on Amazon Prime in the UK, and Peacock in the US. Additionally, it's an odd timing for the match to be occurring with the Champions League round of 16 firmly underway. However, reality dictated the scheduling change. The original match had to be cancelled as a result of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The rearranged date was selected after UEFA asked the Premier League to postpone the fixture to

On February 14th, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred at Michigan State University, leaving three students dead and five wounded. It happened at both the Berkey Hall and the MSU Student Union, two places of education and fellowship, where students were working and socializing. It is believed that the shooter, with no ties to MSU, had chosen the university deliberately to send a message.

The campus rock across the street from MSU College of Education now features painted words that capture the emotion of the moment—“How many more?”. Josh Cowen, a professor of education policy at Michigan State says, “we’re aspirational in these communities. We’re looking for more—if elementary and secondary classrooms are about development, universities are about experience.”

In a statement to the press, Governor Whitmer called for solidarity, stating

Raquel Welch, the international sex symbol, Hollywood superstar and Golden Globe winner, has passed away at 82 after a brief illness. Steve Sauer, Welch’s manager, confirmed on Wednesday that the actress passed away peacefully. In her 50-plus-year career, Welch starred in more than 30 movies and 50 television series and appearances.

Welch rocketed into stardom with breakout roles in 1966’s “Fantastic Voyage” and “One Million Years B.C.” She would go on to star in dozens of other films, such as “100 Rifles,” “The Prince and the Pauper,” “Chairman of the Board” and “Legally Blonde”. In 1975, she also famously performed “I’m a Woman” with Cher in

Raquel Welch, the legendary bombshell actress and sex symbol who captivated movie and television audiences for over fifty years, has died at the age of 82 after a brief illness. Her manager, Steve Sauer, confirmed her death to People on Wednesday morning. Details of the illness were not released.

Welch first rose to fame with her roles in "Fantastic Voyage" (1966) and "One Million Years B.C" (1966), establishing herself as an iconic figure in the entertainment world. Her filmography was extensive and included "The Three Musketeers" (1973), "100 Rifles" (1969), "The Prince and the Pauper" (1977), "Legally Blonde" (2001), and her final film role, "How To Be a Latin Lover" (2017). Moreover, 13 years after starring in "One Million Years B.C",

Raquel Welch, Hollywood's first 60s sex symbol, died on Wednesday morning at her home in Los Angeles. She was 82. A leading actress and international sex symbol, her death was confirmed by her son, Damon Welch.

Welch rose to fame with the 1966 British sci-fi film "One Million Years B.C.", which featured a poster of her wearing a tattered doeskin bikini. This image catapulted her to sex symbol status and her profile-blown up overnight. She also starred in the 1967 sci-fi movie "Fantastic Voyage."

Throughout her career, Welch was publicly admired more for her anatomy than for her dramatic abilities. This was evidenced in her 2010 book, “Beyond the Cleavage," which was a memoir-cum-self-help guide.

However, when she had the opportunity to show off her comic abilities, the critics

Actor Ezra Miller returned to the public eye on Sunday in a highly anticipated Super Bowl trailer for the upcoming $200million DC Comics movie The Flash. Miller, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, narrowly avoided jail time last month after accepting a plea deal for a misdemeanor of 'unlawful trespass.' Miller originally faced felony burglary charges - which could have carried up to 25 years in jail - but the two other charges were dropped and the star was fined $500 plus a $192 surcharge and probation for one year.

The trailer's release was especially notable for its inclusion of Ben Affleck as Batman and Michael Keaton's return as the Caped Crusader. Before they found success as an actor, Miller was widely known for their various creative endeavors; they grew up in New Jersey with their family and had a speech impediment that they overcame with opera and the Met's children's chorus. As the world shifts to low-carbon technology, the demand for minerals and metals such as copper and lithium has grown exponentially. Unfortunately, this shift has the potential to undermine strategies intended to uphold environmental, social, and good governance principles. Many of these minerals and metals come from regions in which government structures are unstable and can increase conflict.

Adam Matthews, the chief responsible investment officer at the Church of England Pensions Board, noted the potential of this increased demand to inflame existing instability. His organization has formed an alliance, the Global Investor Commission on Mining 2030, in order to expose and fight the systemic risks stemming from this situation.

Paul Lee, head of stewardship and sustainable investment strategy at Redington, announced his concern over too much concentration on ESG. This over-focus has the potential to get in the way of good investing. Though refusing to single out any specific companies, Matthews went on to state

Michigan State University and its East Lansing community are in mourning after a violent attack on Monday at Berkey Hall left three dead and five critically wounded. Courageous students braved the gunfire to break windows and barricade their hiding places in order to survive the attack.

The outpouring of grief and support for the victims of the MSU shooting has been accompanied by the familiar calls for gun reform and political finger pointing. House Majority Whip State Rep. Ranjeev Puri, a Democrat, started the trend by opening his statement with “fuck your thoughts and prayers” and closing with a call for “common sense gun reform." His colleague, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin also responded to the shooting, implying that those who disagree with her are responsible for innocent people's deaths and children’s safety.

The politicization of a tragedy before families of the victims have had time to grieve is

Republican legislators from Texas and Iowa have expressed their anger and concern over asset management firms and their commitment to social and environmental causes, dubbing it wokery and a PC agenda. In an effort to prevent further boycotting of the gun, fossil fuel and other industries, Senate Bill 13 in Texas and Senate Study Bill 1094 in Iowa have been proposed. These bills would limit opportunities for asset managers to incorporate “environmental, social and governance factors” into their investment decisions, instead forcing them to make investment decisions solely aimed at maximizing returns and profitability.

The Governor’s Office of the Lone Star state has expressed that the ESG practices are legally and financially concerning, citing that “Public officials are responsible for investing billions of dollars in retirement funds, pension funds, and other investment vehicles. Those hard-earned dollars must not be sacrificed to advance progressive social causes, like green energy or gun control at all costs.”

Atletico San Luis will take on Club America at their home ground Alfonso Lastras stadium for Week 7 of the Clausura 2023. America have not lost at the Alfonso Lastras for fifteen years, with the last victory being 2-1 in September 2007. Since then, the Aguilas have balanced a record of two draws and four defeats at this site. With America boasting the best attacking figures in the tournament so far with 14 goals, Atletico San Luis need to break the curse to gain some much needed momentum and secure their first home victory against the Aguilas.

San Luis have already seen some successes at home this season, managing to remain unbeaten with a win over Puebla and a draw with Chivas. They will be hoping that their formidable record at home can help them best America's attack. San Luis have also recruited well over the past year, bringing on board

High school juniors Thomas Sorber and Jalil Bethea have caught the attention of Syracuse basketball coaching staff, both of whom are 2024 four-star targets in the Philadelphia area. Last month, the 'Cuse was in attendance to watch the duo suit up, and both of them have held offers from the coaching staff.

Bethea attended an official visit in October, which he said made him feel "like another home". With encouragement from coach Gerry McNamara, he has had a great season so far, and looks to improve even further over the coming AAU season. Bethea's forté is his scoring, shooting over 40% from three, and recently scoring 40 points in a game. He speaks highly of Syracuse, and is still considering them amongst other schools such as Rutgers, Seton Hall, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Sorber, a bruising and talented power forward/center, took an

The tragedy of the Michigan State University shooting is another heinous account in America's growing list of school shootings. Three people have been killed, five injured, and the hearts of so many broken. To further add to the despair and heartbreak, leaders in the state have taken to politicizing the tragedy in pursuit of partisan agendas.

On February 14, 2023 an active shooter alert sent shock waves through the campus, and beyond. House Majority Whip State Rep. Ranjeev Puri, a Democrat, released a statement which began with the powerful words "Fuck your thoughts and prayers." Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, another Democratic leader, attempted to smear her opponents and said "You either care about protecting kids or you don’t.” In the wake of the tragedy, certain Democratic officials have expressed a complete disregard for the dead and the grieving and have instead exploited this tragedy for

In a hotly contested matchup, the Milwaukee Bucks extended their winning streak over the Boston Celtics to 11 on Tuesday night. In an overtime game that had all the makings of an upset, with the Celtics noticeably undermanned, the Bucks pulled through with mixed contributions from their lineup and a career-high performance from Jrue Holiday.

Holiday hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining in overtime that ultimately secured the win for Milwaukee. After the decisive shot, Boston was left with the ball and interim head coach Joe Mazzulla attempted to draw up a play without a timeout, but the possesssion ultimately ended with a Grant Williams turnover and clear path foul, ending the late charm run for the Celtics.

Mazzulla admitted postgame he had given his team a bit too much freedom on the possession and should of called timeout. Meanwhile, Grant Williams
