Residents in East Palestine, Ohio are calm amidst the uproar of a train derailment earlier this month. After Ohio Governor Mike DeWine conducted water testing by the Ohio EPA, results returned showing no detection of contaminants in raw water from the five wells that feed into East Palestine’s municipal water system. Residents relying on private wells are still advised to have their water tested by an independent consultant, while those relying on the municipal system will receive treated water.
DeWine also shared that the wells supplying the municipal water system are safely situated below the surface and covered with a steel casing. This shields the water from sheer levels of contamination associated with the derailment, forgoing any concern for citizens using municipal water.
The Ohio EPA has stated that the results from the combined, treated water from all the five wells showed no signs of contaminants associated with the derailment, reassuring residents of the safety of their
