Michigan State University and its East Lansing community are in mourning after a violent attack on Monday at Berkey Hall left three dead and five critically wounded. Courageous students braved the gunfire to break windows and barricade their hiding places in order to survive the attack.
The outpouring of grief and support for the victims of the MSU shooting has been accompanied by the familiar calls for gun reform and political finger pointing. House Majority Whip State Rep. Ranjeev Puri, a Democrat, started the trend by opening his statement with “fuck your thoughts and prayers” and closing with a call for “common sense gun reform." His colleague, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin also responded to the shooting, implying that those who disagree with her are responsible for innocent people's deaths and children’s safety.
