Today, tragedy struck the El Paso community as a shooting at Cielo Vista Mall left one person dead and three others injured. El Paso Fire Department responded to the scene to treat the wounded and help police investigate. Sgt. Robert Gomez of the El Paso Police Department (EPPD) stated they had one suspect in custody, and they “believe there could be one outstanding.” Terrifyingly, Rober Gonzales, who was in the mall at the time, spoke of “people running to the exit” in fear of their lives. Understandably, the shooting evoked memories of a past tragedy in the El Paso community—the mass shooting at a Walmart in 2019 that left 23 people dead.
In light of the shooting, EPPD asked people to avoid the area while “multiple agencies responded to the scene.” Bishop Mark J. Seitz and Auxiliary Bishop-Elect
