No Contamination to Drinking Water in Greater Cincinnati Following East Palestine Train Derailment

On February 3, a train derailment near East Palestine, Ohio, transported hazardous chemicals, leading to widespread potential contaminants. However, tests by Cincinnati Water Works have shown that there is no detectable presence of the contaminants in the Ohio River. Results from the 111 water samples taken through February 14 show no results of any of the four chemicals, which are butyl acrylate, vinyl chloride, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, and ethylhexyl acrylate.

Tiffani Kavalec, chief of the Division of Surface Water at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, said the chemicals did spill into the Ohio River, and they are tracking it in real-time, estimated at a mile an hour, and will be in the Cincinnati area early next week. Cincinnati Water Works is continuing to monitor the water quality and optimize their treatment processes.

Likewise, testing done in East Palestine
