President Joe Biden has thrown a wrench in the divisive battle between congressional Democrats and Republicans, announcing his plan to sign a resolution that would overturn the District of Columbia's crime bill. The resolution, which passed in the Senate 81-14 and in the House with 31 Democrats joining all Republicans, has exposed divisions within the party over how to combat rising crime rates.
The District of Columbia City Council's rewrite of the criminal code has been under review for years and passed unanimously. However, Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, vetoed the bill, raising concerns from Republicans and the president that the bill could be seen as too lenient.
"What we've got is a D.C. city council that seems to be completely bent on achieving some sort of woke messaging on criminal justice reform, as opposed to worrying about the safety and security of people who come to visit and those who reside in this city
Tucker Carlson of Fox News is receiving heavy criticism from within the GOP for airing footage of the Jan. 6 Capitol siege to sanitize the horror of the attack. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave the network access to over 40,000 hours of security footage for their retelling – one that included glaring inaccuracies, distortions, misrepresentations, and omissions all to support Carlson's narrative that what happened was merely a bunch of “sightseers” and not a violent insurrection.
In the footage Carlson aired, he showed a clip of the "QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley walking through the Capitol without pushback from police, arguing that officers did not intervene. Several sources on Capitol Hill disagreed, testifying that after the initial wave of rioters stormed the building, officers felt outnumbered and fear escalating the situation, leading to few attempts to oust the mob, which enabled Ch
On Mar 8, 2023, four American citizens traveling to Matamoros, Mexico for a medical procedure were abducted at gunpoint by a cartel. Two of the group were sadly killed, and the other two were shockingly only rescued after South Carolina friend Cheryl Orange made a phone call to the Brownsville Police Department from a Motel 6. Immediately, the FBI was notified and began an investigation across the US Mexico border.
Unfortunately, this type of violence is all too commonplace in border towns. The kidnapping serves as a wake-up call that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s “Hugs not Bullets” policy has failed. Around 20% of Mexico is effectively under cartel control, according to the CIA, and over 360,000 homicides in the past 17 years. Despite criticism, previous security cooperation between the US and Mexico had some successes but was abruptly stopped by Lopez O
The tug-of-war between the Hill and Washington D.C. saw a dramatic resolution on Wednesday as the Senate voted overwhelmingly to block the D.C. City Council's rewrite of the capital's criminal code. The resolution, which passed 81-14 with 31 Democrats voting with Republicans, now heads to President Biden's desk and will overrule the liberal Washington's new criminal code, with his surprise announcement last week that he would not veto the measure.
The D.C. bill is the product of a years-long review that involved various stakeholders in the criminal justice system, and passed the D.C. Council unanimously. However, Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, vetoed it, and the bill's soft stance on crime at a time when rates of homicides and car thefts are rising in the city, according to police data, heightened concerns and exposed divisions within the Democratic party.
President Joe Biden is proposing a historic 5.2% pay raise for federal employees in 2024 that, if enacted, would be the largest pay increase since the Carter administration in 1980. John Hatton, staff vice president for policy and programs at the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, states that this number is based on the recent change in the BLS's employment cost index, and is a solid step towards compensation reform.
The raise proposed is still lower than the 8.7% raise demanded by both Democrats in the House and Senate as well as federal employee unions. This includes a 4.7% across-the-board raise, couped with a 4% increase in locality pay. Unions still believe this 8.7% figure is more appropriate to offset years of below-average pay increases and hikes in inflation.

Sixteen teams in the CONCACAF Champions League contest for a coveted piece of silverware to kick off tonight, but the attention will turn to Liga MX side Atlas, who look to restore Mexican pride after a historic result last year. By no means will it be an easy task. They must face Honduran side Olimpia in the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula tonight at 8:00 PM EST, with a 37,325 fan capacity expected.
Though Olimpia was voted in, Atlas earned the right to participate in the tournament after defeating Leon in the Apertura 2021 Final, and then once again against Pachuca in the Clausura 2022. But recent signs suggest Atlas may have trouble wading through the competition after a run of injuries and fatigue have hurt the Zorros. Coach Benjamin Mora will have his work
President Joe Biden and a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators and Congressmen have come together to take a stand against a sweeping update to the criminal code in Washington D.C. that would reduce the maximum sentences for carjackings and robberies, and eliminate most mandatory minimum sentences. On Wednesday, the Senate is expected to pass a resolution invalidating the criminal code revamp after the President publicly declared he would sign the measure.
The proposed policing reforms had been passed by the D.C. Council last November and were set to take effect in 2025. Despite Mayor Muriel Bowser's veto, due to concerns the changes would not improve public safety in the nation's capital and burden courts, the Council unanimously voted to override the veto. This prompted Congress, who can invalidate a proposed district law, to step in with a resolution of disapproval. The measure was met with strong bipartisan support from the Republican-led House
On Friday, March 5th, four U.S. citizens attempted to cross the border into Mexico in a white minivan with North Carolina plates, only to be confronted by unidentified gunmen and kidnapped. On Tuesday, the tragic result of their abduction was revealed by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador: two of the four Americans had been found dead, while the other two were found alive, one of them injured.
The group of four, identified as Zindell Brown, Eric James Williams, and cousins Latavia "Tay" McGee and Shaeed Woodard, had traveled from South Carolina to Mexico for McGee’s medical appointment. McGee’s mother, Barbara Burgess, had last heard from her daughter when she was 15 minutes away from the doctor’s office.
The kidnapping was a result of getting caught in the middle of a confrontation between
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro government were found to be engaging in a pattern of unconstitutional behavior by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a wide-ranging investigation. The report identified abuses that included using excessive force, conducting searches based on invalid warrants and unlawful discrimination against Black people.
The probe was conducted by the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ in the aftermath of the shooting death of Breonna Taylor in 2020, and was the first investigation announced under the Biden administration in 2021. LMPD officers used racial slurs against citizens, violated the rights of those “engaged in protected speech critical of policing” and failed to provide officers and other employees the resources needed to do their jobs effectively and lawfully.
The charge comes just months after four LMPD officers were federally charged in August 2020 for violating Breonna Tayor’s civil rights. The report emphasized
Today President Joe Biden presented a comprehensive plan to preserve Medicare for decades to come, jumping in where Republicans have failed to provide solutions to the looming crisis.
At the heart of his plan is raising payroll taxes for those earning over $400,000 and negotiating fairer prices with big pharma; this way, Medicare's trust fund can last til 2050. Republicans have refused to accept any cuts, but have failed to offer their own solutions.
Sen. Rick Scott suggested the program should expire in five years, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis proposed privatizing Medicare and Social Security, raising the retirement age, and leaving seniors to the "delicate mercies" of private insurers.
Biden's plan offers a sensible solution for maintaining the current benefits of Medicare without cutting a dime for seniors. His plan would require the wealthiest amongst us to pay a little bit more in taxes to
The tragic news is stirring throughout the US this evening, as the four Americans that had been abducted on Friday in Mexico have been found. Two have been found dead, while two were found alive, though one is now injured. The group had crossed the border for a medical procedure and were mistaken for someone else by the Mexican drug cartel who kidnapped them.
The group was traveling to Matamoros to undergo a cosmetic surgery procedure -- something many US citizens are doing now more than ever, as they can get them done at a fraction of the cost compared to domestic prices. "More today it's about finding a better price, and people have to be cautious about that," said Marvel Cosmetic Surgery's Dr. Jeff Marvel. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reportedly issued a statement on Tuesday indicating that the two survivors were found alive, though one of them was wounded.

Tuesday was a day of drama in the highly watched case of Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News. In preparation for the summary judgment hearing that could decide the case in favor of Dominion without even going to trial, new court documents showing thousands of pages of texts, emails, documents and correspondence were unsealed revealing an internal civil war brewing within Fox.
Executives like Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott seem to have acknowledged that hosts had to keep the pro-Trump viewer base happy- even if it meant their reporting on the 2020 election lacked accuracy. In a January deposition, Fox founder Rupert Murdoch rejected conspiracy theories about Dominion Voting Systems his own network had promoted after the 2020 election, as well as denied any credible evidence of election fraud.
The documents further showed Fox political editors Chris Stirewalt and Bill Sammon were allegedly trying to accurately record the 2020 election results while star hosts Tucker Carlson, Laura Ing
This Wednesday, Relativity Space became the first company to launch the world's first 3D-printed rocket. The 35-meter tall Terra 1, nicknamed "Good Luck Have Fun", was blasted off from the United States Space Force's Cape Canaveral launch pad. The company estimates it will take 60 days for them to build a rocket from scratch in the future, and this launch is a first step in that direction.
Three hours prior to the launch, a hold was implemented before the Terra 1 was launched successfully at 2:40 PM. The rocket is primarily composed of an aluminum alloy and is designed to be an inexpensive form of launch technology. After the first successful launch, the company has plans to put a printer on the moon and Mars to print mission parts for spacecraft without requiring them to be sent from Earth.
The stakes are extremely high, as the Relativity Space's ultimate goal is to

The Bay Area has seen its share of rain and hail this week, but the forecast is calling for far worse weather to come. A "Pineapple Express," a meteorological phenomenon consisting of an atmospheric river of moisture originating from near the Hawaiian Islands which can bring heavy rain and strong winds, is slated to arrive over Northern California Thursday morning and bring intense weather through Friday.
Projected rain totals are expected to be higher than originally forecasted; the Santa Cruz Mountains should be looking at up to 7.5 inches, low-lying areas up to 2 inches, and the East Bay hills anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. The National Weather Service anticipates the onset Thursday morning along the coast, increasing in intensity and coverage through the day and into the night, with the heaviest rainfall likely Thursday night and rates of up to a half-inch an hour during the most extreme rainfall.
Strong winds are set to arrive with
Four Americans were kidnapped by armed suspects in Mexico last week, two were found dead while two survivors were returned to U.S. soil. In response, the White House has condemned the crime as “unacceptable”, coordinating with the Mexican government, State Department, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to ensure justice is done. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has promised a thorough investigation with “no impunity” for the perpetrators responsible for the kidnapping.
Latavia “Tay” McGee, cousin Shaeed Woodard, and friends Zindell Brown, along with a fifth, Mexican individual, had traveled from South Carolina to Matamoros in Mexico as McGee planned to undergo a cosmetic procedure. According to U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, a violent shootout ensued and the kidnappers forced the four Americans into their pickup truck, leading to the unfortunate casualty of their fifth companion.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued an increasingly-likely warning for an Atmospheric River to arrive in portions of Northern Nevada from Thursday afternoon to Sunday. Experts expect the highest rainfall totals to be found in the higher terrain of the North Bay and Santa Cruz Mountains, where shallow mudslides are possible due to the soils being saturated from recent rain. A civil war has been brewing for months within Fox News Corporation as internal documents, communications, and emails related to the Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News defamation case reveal serious misgivings from employees about the false election fraud claims that were propagated by the hosts of the network.
The ongoing case is set to go to trial in April as the parties are racing towards a March 21 hearing that could decide the lawsuit in Dominion’s favor without a trial. As the documents have been unsealed, it has become disconcertingly clear that the network’s own evidence shows that Fox News’ top executives, hosts, anchors, producers and fact-checkers all knew that Joe Biden had won the 2020 presidential election with no evidence of election fraud.
For example, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Bret Baier's messages and depositions revealed their own misg

Rupert Murdoch, CEO of Fox News, was asked in a January deposition if he believed Dominion Voting Systems were involved in a massive and coordinated effort to steal the 2020 Presidential election, replied a succinct “No.” This exchange was part of a trove of documents from the court case Dominion brought against the right-wing channel for alleged defamation. Tuesday saw the revealing of previously unaccompanied text messages, emails, and other material.
The documents displayed a stark contrast between the election facts being reported by the Fox News decision desk journalists and the conspiracy theories promoted by their own hosts. Bill Sannon, Fox News DC Managing Editor decried the network’s practices of airing false voter fraud claims in private messages to a colleague, putting his concern into context as an “existential crisis”. Such internal conflict highlights what was at stake for Fox News: their popularity and bottom line.
