The strained relationships between the U.S and China were on full display this weekend, after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a testy exchange with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Their talks during the Munich Security Conference took place following the U.S. military’s shoot-down of a Chinese surveillance balloon that flew over sensitive military sites in Montana.
Blinken warned China that supplying Russia with military aid "would cause a serious problem" for their already strained diplomatic relations. This followed a situation in which China refused to openly condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine and increased its trade and fuel purchases from Moscow.
In anticipation for a possible state visit by China’s President Xi Jinping to Moscow later this year, Wang went on a diplomatic visit to Moscow earlier this week. During the meeting, it is expected that Moscow and Beijing will discuss the current political situation in both the US and Europe and international
The US is witnessing a "disturbing" trendlines in China's support for Russia's military, prompting Secretary of State Antony Blinken to raise the issue when he met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Saturday. On the same day, Vice President Kamala Harris alluded to China's support for Russia, saying any steps taken to provide lethal support for Russia would “reward aggression, continue the killing and further undermine a rules-based order.” Reports suggest the US is seeing China publicly trying to promote peace while covertly aiding the Russian war effort and considers providing lethal aid.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and its allies continue to retaliate against what they consider Russian aggression. Ukrainian forces reported repelling Russian attacks in the eastern Donbas region on Sunday as the US voiced concern that China is preparing to arm Russia. In response, retired four-star Army Gen. Jack Keane suggested publically

Boston Celtics stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum made thrilling connections during the 2023 NBA All-Star game in Salt Lake City. Brown, returning to the court after sustaining a fractured face in collision with teammate Tatum, made a point to show off his new mask. His emphatic dunk to begin the game was met with both awestruck silence and shocked cheers.
For these two stars, the journey to the All-Star Game was a long and winding one. They have been teammates for six season, and their mutual understanding as teammates has been a large factor in the Celtics' success this season. Brown told reporters at All-Star weekend that this success comes from an attitude of sacrifice and understanding of their roles on the team, rather than individual successes.
The season-long success of each star has been rewarded in the All Star Stadium. Brown made the All
The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has warned China against crossing a "red line" if it provides lethal support to Russia in its war in Ukraine. This warning comes after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said China is considering providing such support to Moscow. The tensions between Washington and Beijing have heightened as the latter is suspected of sending a surveillance balloon floating over US airspace recently.
Over the past year, Russia has been making attempts to take over Ukraine and US intelligence has indicated that China is considering sending weapons, ammunition or other lethal aid to Moscow. Secretary Blinken warned China about the possible consequences in the meeting with China's top foreign policy official, Wang Yi.
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said, "We welcome the Chinese announcement that they want peace because that's what we always want to pursue in situations like this.

Former president Jimmy Carter, 98, has decided to forgo additional medical intervention, choosing instead to spend his “remaining time” at home with his family and receive hospice care. After a series of “short hospital stays”, the statement from The Carter Center was released on Saturday and since then, tributes have poured in to recognize the former US president’s decades long legacy and commitment to decency.
Tributes have come from across the nation, and even from fellow presidents. “The bond of our common humanity is stronger than the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices”, Carter said during his 2002 Nobel peace prize lecture, which he was awarded for his work in attempting to end conflicts, his campaigning for human rights, and his work to increase social welfare.

US officials addressed mounting tensions between the US and China Sunday at the Munich Security Conference after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, to discuss the country's high-altitude surveillance balloon and concerning stance on providing support to Russia.
The US military shot down a high-altitude Chinese balloon on February 4, to which Blinken called an “unacceptable violation of US sovereignty and international law” and warned of “implications and consequences” if China provides material aid to Russia.
Blinken then went on to say that “there's no doubt” the high-altitude balloon was attempting to actively surveil “very sensitive military sites.” The US Secretary of State, however, did not receive an apology from China as a result of the incident.
“More than 40 countries have had these balloons
Nearly one year after the start of the devastating conflict between Russia and Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a stern warning to Chinese counterpart Wang Yi Sunday of “serious consequences” should they provide support to aid Russia’s war effort. Blinken referenced “some further information that we are sharing today, [that] indicates that they are strongly considering providing lethal assistance to Russia. To the best of our knowledge, they haven’t crossed that line yet.”
The U.S. has evidence that China is providing non-lethal aid, however, the potential provision of lethal aid would carry immense consequences. In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman warned that action from China may trigger a “true world war” with affects every global market. In regards to China
Former President Jimmy Carter, the longest-living U.S. President in history, has entered home hospice care. On Saturday, The Carter Center announced that after undergoing a series of short hospital stays, the 98-year-old former president decided to remain at home with his family and receive hospice care, with the full support of his medical team and family.
A native to Plains, Georgia, former President Jimmy Carter won the 1976 presidential election after rising from a little-known one-term state governor. He largely won the South and Iowa's caucuses before his native region shifted to Republican support, in part due to his promise not to lie to the electorate.
Apart from his political career, Carter is best known for completing a term in the US Navy, founding the Carter Center and establishing a peanut farm. In 2015, he survived a cancer diagnosis, but later left the hospital in 2019 after a serious fall
Former President Jimmy Carter's health has taken a turn for the worse in recent months as his age has caught up with him. The staggering 39th President of the United States has experienced a bout with the skin cancer melanoma, multiple falls, and has recently been in the hospital a few times. However, on Saturday, Carter and his family announced that he had decided to receive hospice care in lieu of more medical intervention, and will be spending his remaining time in his home in Plains, Ga.
The "Announcement from The Carter Center" was released on the Center's Twitter page, revealing that the Carter family "asks for privacy during this time" and is thankful for the support of his fans. The statement made no further details about the conditions that prompted the hospital stays or what deciding to enter hospice care would entail for the historical figure.

West Ham United Manager David Moyes has been handed a golden opportunity that he must make the most of when the Hammers travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Sunday. With the club's Premier League survival on the line, Moyes was understandably concerned after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, saying the Hammers were 'down to the bare bones' after new injuries to Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd, and with PS173.5m worth of talent in the treatment room. However, he awoke to a holy trinity of injury boosts for Spurs, including the return of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola who was pictured back in training and is expected to be available for Sunday’s fixture.
The Irons also received encouraging news from forward Gianluca Scamacca who sent a message on social media saying he's 'back home' in London ahead of the game. Tottenham, meanwhile, are set
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has warned that China is considering providing weapons and ammunition to aid Russia's war in Ukraine, and the US is making it clear that this would have "serious consequences" for the relationship between the two countries.
In an interview with CBS on Saturday, Blinken said the US has been concerned that China may provide weapons since the beginning of the attempted Russian takeover of Ukraine. During a meeting with top Chinese diplomat, Wang Yi, at the Munich Security Conference, Blinken warned China against providing lethal equipment to a country the US has judged as committing crimes against humanity.
China has denied that Russia has requested any military equipment, however the US believes Chinese companies may already be supplying the mercenary wing, Wagner Group, with surveillance information.
In addition, Mr. Blinken expressed his "deep concerns" about the possibility that China may provide lethal materials to Russia. He
Former US President Jimmy Carter will begin receiving hospice care due to a string of recent hospital visits, as confirmed in a statement released Saturday by The Carter Center. After turning 98 years old last year, Carter expressed his desire to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of other medical approaches. The Carter Center emphasized the support of his family and medical team in this decision.
Prior to the announcement, President Carter made an appearance at an NFL game in Atlanta in 2018. While the president remains in hospice care, updates to the story will follow. It is likely his condition will significantly decline in the coming days, as the nature of hospice care for an individual of his age is to help make him comfortable and ease his passing. Carter has long been praised for his efforts in curtailing world hunger, as well as his contributions to the promotion of peace in the Middle East and promotion of human rights
On Saturday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Munich and "was quite blunt" in delivering a warning about the implications and consequences of China providing material support to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Speaking to reporters, a senior State Department official said China was trying to ‘have it both ways’ by claiming they wanted to contribute to peace while also possibly taking "concerning" steps to back Russia's invasion. In an interview with NBC News, Blinken said there was “deep concern” that China might provide lethal war assistance to Russia.
The West has been wary of China's response to the Ukraine war, with the fear that the results could color Beijing's actions towards Taiwan. China has so far avoided condemning the war or calling it an "invasion." In a panel address at the conference on the same day, Wang Yi reiterated the need for dialogue, and
Former President of the United States Jimmy Carter has decided to forego additional medical intervention and will instead begin receiving hospice care at his home, according to a statement from The Carter Center on Saturday.
Carter, 98 years-old, has had a series of short hospital stays over the year. In the statement, The Carter Center said: "Former US President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team."
The former president rose to fame in 1977, when he became the 39th President of the United States. He served a single term and was the recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in advancing global peace and human rights.
Since leaving office, Carter has dedicated himself to humanitarian work. Through The Carter Foundation, he has been involved with initiatives
Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with China's top diplomat Saturday evening on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, where he issued warnings to the counterpart regarding Beijing's expansive spy balloon program and offered concerns over the country's growing support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"We had a very direct, very clear conversation about the Chinese surveillance balloon being sent over our territory in violation of our sovereignty, in violation of international law," Blinken told ABC "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz. "I told Wang Yi, my Chinese counterpart, that that action was unacceptable and must never happen again."
During the lengthy and broad-reaching conversation, Blinken further clarified that US concerns with China exceed espionage, suggesting Beijing may be considering providing military aid to Russia to support its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

Vocal Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and made a shocking announcement: that the United States has determined that Russia has committed crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
She enumerated the horrific acts committed by Russian forces - murder, torture, rape, deportation, execution-style killings, beatings, and electrocution. In addition, Harris highlighted how allowing atrocities to go unpunished creates an opportunity for other authoritarian governments to do the same.
Harris’ powerful statement comes days before the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and serves as a warning to other countries who think that crimes against humanity will be allowed to go unpunished. The Vice President also held fast that justice must be served for the perpetrators and demanded that allies of the United States help illustrate a strong, unified front.
It is essential that justice is enforced in these
Vice President Kamala Harris has formally accused Russia of committing crimes against humanity in Ukraine one year after their invasion. This accusation comes after a year of horrific war crimes committed against Ukraine. In a speech at the Munich Security Conference, Ms. Harris denounced Russia for their actions.
“From the starting days of this unprovoked war, we have witnessed Russian forces engage in horrendous atrocities and war crimes,” Harris said. “We have examined the evidence, we know the legal standards, and there is no doubt: These are crimes against humanity.”
The US has accused Russia of torture, rape, execution-style killings, and forcibly deporting thousands of Ukrainians, even children. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that accusing Russia of crimes against humanity is reserved for the "most egregious crimes."
Vice President Harris has vowed that those responsible for these atrocities and their superiors will be held accountable.
Saturday night's game between Michigan State and its in-state rival Michigan had taken on an emotional level unprecedented to the heated rivalry. In the wake of a campus shooting that claimed the life of three students, the rivalry game between the two teams acted as a way for alumni, students and fans to come together in healing and hope.
Michigan was the first to deliver a show of support prior to tip-off. Staging a standing ovation as Michigan State took the court to warm up, the Wolverines also donned special t-shirts to show support for their opponents. Even the student section and Michigan's pep band joined in a special gesture, playing Michigan State's alma mater while students held up a "Spartan Strong" flag.
The game was just as emotional as the events before it. Both teams held a lengthy moment of silence in an arena bathed in green light, and heads of
Early Sunday morning, authorities responded to a shocking tragedy at the Mickey and Friends parking structure at Disneyland. A woman was found on the ground and was rushed to a nearby hospital, tragically pronouncing her dead upon arriving.
Officers responded to the scene when reports came in around 6:50 p.m. on Saturday of someone either jumping or falling from the parking structure. While the circumstances of the death remain under investigation, preliminary reports suggest the woman may have jumped or fallen from the parking structure.
The Mickey and Friends parking structure is the largest at Disneyland, found near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway off Disneyland Drive. It is the area's most common destination for visitors to the popular destination.
This is not the first tragedy for Disneyland this year. Last December, a man in his 50s jumped to his death from a parking structure at the resort. Those affected by Saturday night's tragedy were met with police investigations and a
