Residents of New York City can expect to see a last-gasp winter storm this week with robust wind gusts and heavy rain followed by some snow. According to FOX Meteorologist Cody Braud, the nor'easter will bring wet ground and warmer temperatures which mean that the snow will have to overcome the rain and the warmth in order to accumulate. Braud predicts that the Big Apple could see up to one inch of snow.
Suburbanites north of Manhattan are more likely to see snow accumulate due to the higher elevations which could collect more snow. The National Weather Service forecasts areas of higher elevation could produce snowfall of up to a foot but warmer temperatures near I-95 corridors may cause snowfall amounts to decrease. Further inland from the coasts, beginning in Minnesota and Wisconsin, there is the potential for extreme amounts of snow and blizzard conditions.

On Sunday, US government regulators took decisive action to protect the US economy, providing assurances to the public for the safety and security of the US banking system. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen directed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to ensure customers of failed Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank will have access to all of their money starting Monday, March 13. Neither bank will suffer any loss borne by the taxpayer.
In the joint statement from Yellen, Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome H. Powell, and FDIC Chairman Martin J. Gruenberg, they clarified “after receiving a recommendation from the boards of the FDIC and the Federal Reserve, and consulting with the President, Secretary Yellen approved actions...to fully protect all depositors”. Moreover, depositors of both banks will be made whole, “no losses associated with the resolution of [either] Bank will be borne by the taxpayer
The fighting for control of the salt-mining town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine has resulted in devastating losses for both Ukraine and Russian forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 1,100 Russian soldiers were killed and an additional 1,500 were so badly wounded they are unable to continue fighting in the span of a week. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, their forces destroyed more than 220 Ukrainian service members in the past day alone.
Furthermore, their forces have begun military operations in the Donetsk region bordering Luhansk. With the Bakhmutka River winding through Bakhmut now marking the front line, Ukraine controls the area to the west and the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary group, controls the eastern part according to British intelligence.
The fight over the area has continued for months, with both sides admiting massive losses
Former Vice President Mike Pence used his remarks at the Gridiron dinner on Friday to express his strong views about the events of January 6th, 2021. In a stark departure from the usual comedic tone of the dinner, Pence denounced his former boss, President Trump, for the danger he recklessly caused his family and Capitol staff that day.
The current VP called for Trump to be held accountable for his actions, which served to mock decency, and reminded the audience of the risk his words presented that day. These sentiments mirrored those of Pence' published memoir, "So Help Me God," where he attested to the recklessness of the President's words.
With Pence presented with the opportunity, he sought to make the most of addressing a room full of top political journalists and potentially convert those who have been skeptical of him and the 2024 race. Senior adviser, Marc Short, reflected the intent of Pence's speech
Five-time Academy Award nominee Lady Gaga announced that she will not be performing at the 2023 Oscars during a Zoom call with entertainment journalists on Wednesday (March 8). Gaga has starred in a series of critically acclaimed roles, including winning two Oscar nomations for Best Actress and Best Original Song for her role in A Star Is Born. A Star is Born’s duet “Shallow” with Bradley Cooper in 2019 and “Til It Happen to You” from The Hunting Ground in 2016 also earned Gaga r

The Biden Administration took a major step forward in environmental conservation on Sunday as they announced plans to limit or ban oil drilling in 16 million acres of land in Alaska and the Arctic Ocean.
The first part of the plan is to bar drilling in nearly 3 million acres of the Arctic Ocean, closing off federal waters from oil exploration. This will be followed by the development of new rules for more than 13 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska . This area encompasses the Teshekpuk Lake, Utukok Uplands, Colville River, Kasegaluk Lagoon and an area known as Peard Bay.
The announcement comes as regulators prepare to announce a final decision on the controversial Willow project pushed by ConocoPhillips. If approved, Willow would be the biggest new oil field in decades in Alaska, producing up to 180,000 barrels a day. The approval of the project would
The United Kingdom is taking steps to fortify its security as tensions continue to grow between Russian forces and Ukrainian troops. On Sunday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the UK was upping its defense spending by $6 billion to "fortify" against threats from Russia and China. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces said late Sunday that Russian forces had suffered 1,090 fatalities in the war with Ukraine, which could be the deadliest day of the conflict since it began over a year ago.
The UK's increased defense spending will be used to purchase new ammunition, modernize the UK's nuclear submarine program and finance the 'next phase' of AUKUS: a security pact between the UK, US and Australia. The pact's details will be unveiled Monday by UK, US and Australian leaders at a joint news conference.
British leaders have identified both Russia and China as hostile
On Sunday night, President Joe Biden addressed the nation and promised to take action against those responsible for the banking crisis that has led to the closure of two banks: Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. The federal government is taking measures to ensure the security of the US's financial system and ensure all deposits are accessible when needed.
The US government has appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to act as receiver for Silicon Valley Bank, creating the Deposit Insurance National Bank of Santa Clara to transfer all insured deposits. As of the end of 2022, Silicon Valley Bank had roughly $209 billion in total assets and about $174.5 billion in total deposits, according to the FDIC.
Though Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has ruled out a federal bailout for Silicon Valley Bank’s investors, she did say that the Biden administration is working to meet the needs of its depositors. Yellen said she's been hearing from
At least eight people have tragically died off the coast of San Diego, California, after two boats capsized late Saturday night. San Diego Fire-Rescue was alerted when a 911 caller reported falling off a fishing boat with 8 other people, while another boat carrying 8 to 10 people had overturned. After a search and recovery operation was conducted, 8 lifeless bodies were discovered spread across a 400 yard area.
Lifeguards could only see 7 bodies at first but an additional body was eventually discovered with assistance from the US Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations. Crews from various agencies such as the San Diego Police Department, US Customs and Border Protection, and the US Coast Guard assisted in the incident. The bodies have been transferred to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.
A joint news conference between the Coast Guard and Border Protection has been set for Sunday to possibly provide more answers surrounding the tragic incident. All the
In an unprecedented move on Saturday night, former Vice President Mike Pence spoke out against Donald Trump, directly blaming the former president for his role in the lead-up to the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol.
The remarks came during his appearance at the white-tie Gridiron dinner, organised by the press corp in Washington that this year featured speeches from Secretary of State Antony Blinken and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in addition to Pence.
Pence said that Trump was wrong for trying to overturn the election and that his reckless words put everyone at the Capitol in danger. “Make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace, and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way”, the former vice president stated.
He also sent a message to those trying to rewrite the events of that day, saying, “The American people have a right to

Billionaire Bill Ackman recently issued a warning noting that the government has just 48 hours to fix the 'irreversible mistake' of the collapse of SVB. His urgent call was answered when the FDIC took swift action, noting that insured depositors would have access to their deposits by Monday and that uninsured depositors would receive an "advance dividend within the week". This move by the government may fulfill the most immediate needs of tech startups who lost access to their SVB accounts, but more could be done to ensure the tech sector - an engine of economic growth - survives.
Senator Chris Coons proposed the establishment of a new domestic industrial development bank, which could provide bridge loans to the tech industry, and the Small Business Administration could step in with emergency loans, similar to when Covid hit in March 2020. California and the federal government also have Technology Modernization Funds which could

The Cougars made it to the semifinals with two wins in the tournament and a regular season conference record of 9-9.

Coach Lisa Fortier was welcomed as the WCC Coach of the Year and guard Kaylynne Truong as the Player of the Year. Federal regulators responded quickly to avert a major financial crisis on Friday after Silicon Valley Bank abruptly shut down. The Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation jointly declared that they will take “decisive actions” to secure the US banking system.
The group attached the caveat that taxpayers will not bear any costs related to losses stemming from the illegal seizure of SVB. The Federal Reserve created a new lending facility to endure the nation’s banks have access to the capital needed to weather the storm. The facility provides loans up to one year with collateral such as US treasuries, agency debt and mortgage-backed securities.
In a matter of hours, US officials weighed what would’ve been an extraordinary intervention which protected all uninsured deposits at SVB while averting a financial meltdown. All the while, they kept in mind the option to sell SVB to a healthy institution
The Los Angeles Rams front office is at a crossroads. After pushing the roster to its maximum for years, the current salary cap abundance has left the team with hard decisions to make. Topping the list of potential moves is the ironclad CB Jalen Ramsey, who is currently being discussed in trade rumors with the Miami Dolphins.
Ramsey's contract is a bargain for a Playoff-hopeful NFL team from a value standpoint. The 2023 salary is only guaranteed for $5 million and the All-Pro defensive back will be making only $17 million in the following year, creating an opportunity for eager teams. Should a team pull the trigger, Ramsey will likely be exchanged for a first-round pick and an additional player – TE Hunter Long – according to multiple sources.
Potential deals, such as the Ramsey trade, were once unthinkable. However, expectations are that the Rams
The sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank last Friday has sparked a heated debate over the role of the federal government in rescuing the ailing banking institution, with GOP contenders making the issue an article of their 2024 presidential campaign. Among the most vocal of the group, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley declared that "taxpayers should absolutely not bail out Silicon Valley Bank," instead advocating for an acquisition of the bank by private investors. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen echoed the sentiment, revealing that the administration has no plans for a bailout and instead are focused on aiding the depositors affected by the bank's failure. Similarly, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) raised concerns that there will be no consequences to the mistakes made by the bank and because of this, she is not in support of a bailout for the moment.
Sen. Mark Warner has dismissed any possibility of a bailout and has instead suggested that the best
The US Federal Reserve expressed confidence earlier this month in the strength of banks and the financial system in a report to Congress. However, that confidence has been put to the test with Friday's collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SIVB.O). Regulators are working to contain any fallout and prevent any further damage to the overall system. Measures include potentially backing up all deposits at the failed bank, even uninsured ones.
The US Federal Reserve has tools to shoring up the financial system and response was swift when the Coronavirus pandemic hit. Loan volumes from the “discount window” jumped from near zero to about $50 billion in a matter of weeks. The Fed has also shown a willingness to react quickly to potential problems in the past.
The collapse of SVB highlighted whether the Fed's aggressive rate increases finally caused something important to 'break' as holders of low-yielding Treasury
At least eight people have died and seven are missing after two boats carrying migrants used for smuggling purposes capsized near the shore of Blacks Beach in San Diego County, California. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the scene at 11:30 pm after someone on a separate panga boat, a type of small fishing boat powered by an outboard motor, called 911 to report victims in the water. Unfortunately, authorities could not access the beach due to the high tide, and instead lifeguards had to wade through "knee to waist deep water" to find the victims.
When their search was complete, the lifeguards found seven bodies and with help from the US Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations, they were able to find one more, bringing the death toll to eight. Authorities are still searching for the seven missing people and multiple agencies are now involved in
This Sunday, Newcastle United takes on Wolverhampton Wanderers on their home turf of St. James' Park, in a key Premier League encounter. With Newcastle currently sixth in the standings, with 41 points, a win for them this weekend could vault them into a four-way race for a Champions League spot. Wolves, however, will prove a difficult match, with 17 points from the last 11 Premier League matches.
Importantly, both sides have strong players. Newcastle striker Miguel Almiron leads the team in goals with 10, while Wolverhampton mainstay Daniel Podence is their top scorer with five. Newcastle has conceded the least number of goals in the league with only 17, while Wolves just one behind with 18. Crucially, Newcastle has the edge in goal differential with a league-best +18, vs the -16 of Wolves.
Even so, Wolves won't give up easily. Under manager
Former Vice President Mike Pence leveled his sharpest criticism yet of former President Donald Trump's role in the January 6th attack on the US Capitol at the annual Gridiron Club Dinner in Washington, DC. During his speech, Pence called the attack on the Capitol a "tragic day" and said that, "President Trump was wrong" for trying to overturn the results of the election and that his "reckless words endangered" Pence's family and those in the Capitol.
Relatedly, President Biden has made moves in preparation for his 2024 run, making strategic shifts on his stances and preparing to exploit Republican weaknesses in areas such as Social Security and drug prices. Biden has also received pushback for his approval of an Alaska oil project, and his VP Kamala Harris has been the target of criticism from her own party.
As for Trump's end of things, he has started to lay the

Brentford have pushed closer to European qualification with a dramatic 3-2 win over fellow hopefuls Fulham on Monday. Two goals in the second half, an Ivan Toney penalty and a late effort by Mathias Jensen, sealed the points for ninth-placed Brentford. Toney continued his impressive form, keeping up a 100% penalty conversion rate since joining Brentford with his 22nd goal from the spot.
The hosts had taken an early lead, with a deflected shot by Ethan Pinnock, but Fulham hit back shortly before half time when Manor Solomon scored. Despite a stoppage-time consolation from Carlos Vinicius, Brentford are now unbeaten in the Premier League since October and have 38 points from 24 games, one point behind seventh-placed Fulham and four behind fifth-placed Liverpool.
The game was fast-paced from start to finish
The sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) left the tech sector in turmoil. After the company announced its need for a sudden $2.25 billion cash injection on Wednesday, depositors scrambled to withdraw an estimated $42 billion from the failing bank – the second largest bank failure in history.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was quick to make her position clear, telling CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the United States government would not be offering a bailout to SVB. The reforms in place, Yellen explained, would not permit such an act, though she expressed concern for the bank’s many depositors.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has said it will cover up to $250,000 of each depositor’s savings, and is hopeful that payments could begin as early as Monday. Regulators are also considering a range of
