At least eight people have died and seven are missing after two boats carrying migrants used for smuggling purposes capsized near the shore of Blacks Beach in San Diego County, California. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the scene at 11:30 pm after someone on a separate panga boat, a type of small fishing boat powered by an outboard motor, called 911 to report victims in the water. Unfortunately, authorities could not access the beach due to the high tide, and instead lifeguards had to wade through "knee to waist deep water" to find the victims.
When their search was complete, the lifeguards found seven bodies and with help from the US Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations, they were able to find one more, bringing the death toll to eight.
