Four American citizens were the victims of a shocking mistake on Friday, as gunmen struck their vehicle in the northern Mexican border city of Matamoros and kidnapped them, as confirmed by the FBI. According to an unidentified U.S. official, authorities believe the Americans were targeted in error after entering into Mexico to purchase much-needed medication.
Their white minivan was fired upon, and terrifying images from the scene show the four with guns pointed towards them and a woman seated beside three bodies outside the van. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for any information leading to their return and the arrest of those responsible.
Unfortunately, this incident highlights Tamaulipas' current violent state, which has seen a recent spike in crime since the Mexican government declared war on powerful drug cartels in 2006. To express the urgency of the situation, the U.S. State Department has released a
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has been going on for well over a year, shows no sign of de-escalating. Russia has has been attempting to assert its dominance in the battle for the contested city of Bakhmut since last April, but has been unsuccessful. According to Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of a mercenary outfit known as the Wagner Group, if they are taken out of the equation, "the front line will crumble," and Ukrainian forces will be able to advance.
This was confirmed by Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the Ukraine's internal ministry, who said that Prigozhin referred to the mercenaries as "cement" for the Russian front line and "prevents the enemy from breaking through." Prigozhin also reportedly said that if Wagner retreated from the battle, it would go down in history as "the people who
Fox News' Tucker Carlson was granted exclusive access to U.S. Capitol security camera footage by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in an effort to rewrite the narrative of the January 6 attack. Despite the clear violence of the day, which even spawned a congressional inquiry, Carlson portrayed those involved as peaceful patriots who felt wronged. During his prime-time show, Carlson aired footage showing everyday people taking selfies or simply meandering around the building, while falsely claiming absolute proof that Democrats had lied.
McCarthy's assistance of Carlson was a deliberate act to help rewrite history and paint the attack in a falsely peaceful light. It was an inappropriate and irresponsible decision, especially given that actual news organizations were denied access to the footage. The right-wing media figures, including Carlson, had long spread misinformation about the 2020 election which ultimately inspired the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The truth of the events of January 6 must not

As California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) celebrates its 10-year anniversary, Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed a measure to strengthen accountability for the K-12 funding system and close the educational opportunity gaps.
The LCFF, signed into law in 2013 by Gov. Jerry Brown, shifted tens of billions of dollars to school districts serving high-needs students and gave district officials greater budget flexibility to address their priorities. In addition, it strengthened family engagement in local spending decisions.
However, an investigation by Public Advocates and enforcement action revealed that billions intended for low-income students, English learners, and foster youth are not reaching students at the school site level. The LCFF holds school districts accountable for a number of measures, such as community engagement and equitable spending, but county offices of education lack the capacity to ensure full
Brentford have pushed closer to European qualification with a dramatic 3-2 win over fellow hopefuls Fulham on Monday. Two goals in the second half, an Ivan Toney penalty and a late effort by Mathias Jensen, sealed the points for ninth-placed Brentford. Toney continued his impressive form, keeping up a 100% penalty conversion rate since joining Brentford with his 22nd goal from the spot.
The hosts had taken an early lead, with a deflected shot by Ethan Pinnock, but Fulham hit back shortly before half time when Manor Solomon scored. Despite a stoppage-time consolation from Carlos Vinicius, Brentford are now unbeaten in the Premier League since October and have 38 points from 24 games, one point behind seventh-placed Fulham and four behind fifth-placed Liverpool.
The game was fast-paced from start to finish
Miracle survivor Elijah McCormack has finally achieved his dreams of appearing on “American Idol.” Despite dying nine times in a near fatal car accident in 2019, McCormack was able to take the stage on the show's 21st season in a spectacular display of spirit and singing prowess.
McCormack’s incredible journey began after his high school graduation in 2019. Unfortunately, just a mile away from his home, the 21-year-old ophthalmologist technician got into a fiery crash. According to McCormack, the last thing he remembers was dropping a friend off at her house. After 80 days in the hospital and 10 procedures, McCormack returned to the stage via “American Idol.”
Though he faced challenges, McCormack’s mother shared that his first question after the accident was “Can I still sing?” Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and
On Monday, February 27th, the Falmouth Select Board recommended approving a petition that hopes to change the Massachusetts state flag. Retired anthropologist Sandra Faiman-Silva submitted the petition which cites a plethora of reasons why the current flag is problematic and displays images of European colonialism. The flag currently displays a replicated image of Myles Standish's broadsword raised above the image of an Indigenous person.
Former Governor Charles D. Baker Jr. approved the creation of a commission to change the state flag in 2021, which voted last year to recommend replacing the flag altogether. Representative David T. Vieira (R-East Falmouth) sat on this commission. However, they ran out of time, and the project became stalled. To revive the project, Faiman-Silva and other supporters of the project hope to convince state municipalities to pass letters of support.

Colombia is proposing to capture and transport up to 70 hippopotamuses, descended from four illegally imported "cocaine hippos" from Africa by drug lord Pablo Escobar in the 1980s, to India and Mexico as part of a plan to control their population.
The hippos, which are territorial and weigh up to three tons, are thought to have multiplied to 150 strong at the Hacienda Napoles ranch in Antioquia province since the kingpin was killed by police in 1993. In absence of any natural predators, the hippos have spread far and wide, potentially reaching up to 400 in eight years, and are a potential problem for biodiversity due to the effect their feces have on local rivers.
Last year, Colombia declared the hippos an invasive, toxic species and proposed a plan to lure them with food into large iron containers and transfer them by
Ukraine’s eastern town of Bakhmut is under siege by the Wagner group, a private army working for the Russian government. Head of the group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has complained of a lack of ammunition and blamed it on bureaucratic issues or a possible “betrayal.” In a video uploaded earlier in the week, he claimed that the regular Russian forces depend on them to support the front lines and suggested his troops had been “set up” in case of a Russian loss.
Relations have grown increasingly tense between Wagner and Russia, with Prigozhin saying documents for ammunition had been signed but not shipped. Over the past month, he had publicly expressed his grievances with the Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, and Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, for withholding supplies of munitions. He expressed fears of his
Four American citizens have been abducted by unknown, armed men in Matamoros, Mexico, with a $50,000 reward being offered for their return, according to the FBI.
The incident unfolded Friday afternoon, when four passengers were in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates crossing the Mexico border into Matamoros. Just after crossing, the vehicle was fired upon by multiple gunmen, and the four American citizens were then taken away in another vehicle.
Since the abduction, a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory has been issued for U.S. citizens in the Tamaulipas state. The FBI has asked for the public’s help in identifying the perpetrators and in locating the four Americans.
White House press secretary Kayne Jean-Pierre called the attack “unacceptable” and emphasized that all necessary resources will be utilized to find the victims and bring those responsible to
Cody Rhodes' fast-paced return to WWE since leaving AEW in February 2022 is set to culminate at WrestleMania 39 this April with a shot at the Undisputed Universal Championship. The American Nightmare is likely to face the champion Roman Reigns in the main event of that show.
Rhodes' departure from AEW was an unexpected development since fans had long been debating rumors about him turning heel for a few months prior to his announcement. However, during that period, he held fast to his principles and remained a face character until the very end.
When asked about the matter on the Arn podcast, Anderson stated that there were no hard feelings between Rhodes and AEW President Tony Khan, noting that Khan holds no ill will towards Rhodes because his departure was simply one of those things that happens.
Rhodes has been booked like a star since his return to
The New York Knicks are preparing to travel to Boston to face one of their biggest rivals in the Celtics without one of their brightest stars. Guard Jalen Brunson, who has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February, is out due to soreness in his left foot. The rising star was missed in the Knicks' 122-120 win in Miami last Friday, where he finished the game limping out to the locker room with 25 points and eight assists.
The Celtics are also missing key players for the matchup, as Malcolm Brogdon will be out due to a sore ankle and Robert Williams is sidelined from a hamstring injury. These setbacks mean that the Celtics will be scrambling for reinforcements from the bench, as well as looking for Grant Williams, Blake Griffin, Luke Kornet, or Mike Muscala to take a larger role in the game.
None of this potential matchup shake up matters
All eyes were on former President Donald Trump as he delivered the keynote address at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The crowd of fervent supporters donned red 'Make America Great Again" caps, chanting Trump's name and "USA! USA!" as he touted his accomplishments in the White House, dismissed the legal cases against him and critiqued President Joe Biden's administration. During his hourlong speech, the former president made clear his intent to run in the 2024 election, claiming Biden was taking the nation "toward oblivion."
The fervor of the crowd quickly died down, however, when a heckler disrupted the proceedings by blaring the song "Fuck Donald Trump." Video taken by NewsNation photographer Jordan Clifford showed police escorting the unidentified offender from the premise, to the sound of booing and chants of "USA, USA!"
Trump is still popular among his base
On the heels of their exciting win over the Miami Heat on Friday night, the New York Knicks (38-27) aim for their ninth consecutive win as they face off against the top-ranked Boston Celtics (45-19) at TD Garden in Boston. While the Celtics maintain the upper hand for the season series 2-1 against the Knicks, New York remains ever-resilient, climbing all the way from the No.6 seed set at the beginning of the season up to No. 5.
Jalen Brunson was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February, and his performance on Friday night has set the stage for tonight’s matchup. He posted a remarkable 25 points, eight assists, two steals, and only one turnover in 35 minutes against the Heat despite an ankle injury early in the game.
Boston’s Marcus Smart posted 19 points in their last meeting
On March 5, 2023, Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of Russia's Wagner paramilitary organization, issued a warning that his forces were in a position to take over the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. Through a drone, Ukrainian forces saw three Wagner troops had established a firing position in no-man's land. Prigozhin had previously announced that his troops had 'virtually surrounded' Bakhmut and had been promised ammunition by Moscow in February, but those supplies had still yet to arrive. He accused the Soviet defense minister and other generals of “treason” for withholding supplies and conceivably setting his forces up to take the fall if their side lost the war.
In order to address the ammo shortage, Prigozhin urged Moscow to supply the troops with more. Without it, he said, "the whole front will collapse” in the Ukrainian city
On the eve of England’s six-match tour, Bangladesh is more than just a “warm-up” as the Asian nation has transformed from haunted memories of Liberation War, to challenging some of cricket’s elite. England’s last tour to Bangladesh in 2016 ended in defeat, Eoin Morgan’s side unable to secure the 50-over series, a streak dating back to 2005 in similar conditions in India.
Since then, Bangladesh have won 12 of their past 13 ODI series at home, their impressive win against number one ranked India in December 2020 their only suffered defeat. The series against England - consisting of three ODIs followed by three T20s - marks the nation’s last overseas tour before they defend their 50-over World Cup title on the Indian subcontinent.

The battle for Bakhmut, a city on the Ukrainian-Russian border, has been raging for months now. As the fighting intensifies, and Russian forces continue to advance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the war against Russia has the potential to stretch another year. To prepare the country for what is to come, Ukrainian defense and energy officials are preparing to reinforce their infrastructure and decentralize the energy system, creating independent power sources.
Just last week, Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of Russia's Wagner mercenary force, said that if Wagner was forced to retreat from Bakhmut, the entire front would collapse. Prigozhin has been openly critical of Russian defense chiefs and top generals, accusing them of treason for withholding supplies of ammunition, and claiming that if Wagner retreats, they will be remembered as people who took the main step towards losing the war.
On Saturday, March 5th, a cargo train traveling southbound from Bellevue, Ohio to Birmingham, Alabama derailed near Springfield Township, Ohio. Approximately 28 of the train’s 212 cars derailed, including four empty tankers. Thankfully, no public or crew injuries were reported, but the Clark County Emergency Management Agency did issue a precautionary shelter in place order for those living within 1,000 feet of the site.
Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg was briefed by the Federal Railroad Administration, and gave assurance that no hazardous material was released. Nevertheless, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency deployed a Hazmat team as a precautionary measure.
In a tweet, Senator Sherrod Brown expressed his frustration after this latest train derailment. “Sandusky, Steubenville, East Palestine, and now Springfield - Four Norfolk Southern derailments in less than five months because this corporation has
In a rare interview on CNN's "State of the Union" New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) responded to a question about the major upset of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the city's recent mayoral election. Adams called Lightfoot’s loss a “warning sign” not just for his own prospects but for the country as a whole.
Adams, who is no stranger to a tough-on-crime message, stated that mayors are “closest to the problem” and that public safety is a “prerequisite to prosperity” in American cities. He pointed to polls which show New Yorkers feeling unsafe and the alarming statistics that indicate it. Adams stressed that he speaks to everyday working-class people and that many are concerned about safety.
Adams made a controversial comment connecting faith to his belief of how he governs, saying that "the state is the body

The Memphis Grizzlies have been dealt a significant blow to their plans for success this season with star Ja Morant suspended for two games, forward Brandon Clarke out for the season, and guard Dillon Brooks suspended for Sunday's game. This after Morant posted an Instagram Live video displaying what appeared to be a gun in the early hours of Saturday morning, eliciting a two game suspension from the NBA.
Morant expressed his regret in a statement, noting his need for "help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being." Without Morant, the Grizzlies have won an impressive 6-3, with Morant averaging 26.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists over that stretch, although the most recent game was a loss to the first-place Denver Nuggets. Clarke's true value was seemingly revealed after his injury, leaving the team "emotional" and
Last Saturday, authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no public health risk associated with the derailment of a Norfolk Southern cargo train between Dayton and Columbus, Ohio. The southbound train of 212 cars derailed near a business park and the county fairgrounds at approximately 4:45 pm. Four tankers and 24 other cars fell off the tracks during the incident.
The Clark County Hazmat team, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and a crew from Norfolk Southern each examined the crash site, determining there was no evidence of a spillage. The shelter-in-place alert was lifted as the train did not contain any hazardous materials. Possible materials that were aboard the train included liquid propane and ethanol, but luckily, these substances were not spilled. Though two of the four tankers were carrying Diesel Exhaust Fluid and the other two had Polyacrylamide Water Solution, the Ohio EPA confirmed that the
