New Mexico State announced Friday night that the university has suspended the operations of their men's basketball program and placed the coaching staff on paid administrative leave "until further notice." This comes as the school is being informed of new allegations that involve possible violations of university policy entirely separate from the events that happened in Albuquerque late last year.
Sources are indicating that the allegations are related to hazing, and a police report was filed on the issue which prompted the university's action.
In November, a New Mexico State player, Mike Peake, was hospitalized after a shooting on the University of New Mexico's campus the night before the two rivals were scheduled to play. Peake was suspended for his role in the incident, which left a New Mexico student dead.
New Mexico State's Board of Regents have released a statement saying they support the suspension and are confident a full and thorough investigation will be conducted.

Roseanne Barr is no stranger to controversy, and her latest grievance aired with the Los Angeles Times shows that the former sitcom star has still got something to say almost three years after being fired from the ABC show bearing her own name. Ahead of her upcoming standup special, Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!, the comedian reprimanded the entertainment industry for its double standard of punishment when it comes to her, comparing her exile to that of other comedy stars Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K.
“They didn’t do it to anyone else in Hollywood, although they always throw in Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K,” Barr told the LA Times. “Well, Louis C.K. did lose everything, but he committed an actual [offense]. And Dave Chappelle was protected by Netflix. I’m the only person who’s
The Dallas Mavericks pulled within one game of the Sacramento Kings in the Western Conference standings following a 122-114 victory in Sacramento. On Friday afternoon, the U.S. military shot down an unmanned "high-altitude object" over Alaskan airspace and Arctic waters near the Canadian border. According to National Security Council official John Kirby, the object, which was flying at 40,000 feet, posed a reasonably threat to the safety of civilian flight, prompting President Biden to order the military to take it down.
Armed fighters assigned to the U.S. Northern Command were able to confirm that the object was unmanned prior to shooting it down. The Pentagon is expected to provide a briefing regarding the situation at 3 p.m. ET.
Right now, the United States is unsure as to who owns the object. Kirby stated: 'We're calling this an object because that's the best description we have right now. We do not know who owns it, whether it's
The death toll from the Monday’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria has now surpassed 20,000 and continues to rise. Though the outpouring of support from people around the world transcends national boundaries, the politics of disaster recovery, with its slow churn of bureaucracy, is getting in the way of saving lives. The need for international aid and understanding is dire, particularly in an area already devastated by civil war and where the Syrian dictator uses humanitarian aid as a bargaining chip.
In a visit Wednesday to an area where entire blocks have disappeared, Turkish President Recep Erdogan acknowledged "some issues" with the response and transportation and promised that all those made homeless will have new housing within a year. He also declared a national state of emergency and deployed federal troops, yet this is not enough to make up for regional fuel shortages, lack of trained local rescue teams, and what people inside Turkey are calling a slow governmental
The FBI is searching former Vice President Mike Pence’s home in Indiana for classified documents, according to a source “familiar with the matter” and an anonymous Justice Department official. This consensual search follows the disclosure by Pence’s representatives of the National Archives and Records Administration last month that documents bearing classified markings had “inadvertently” been boxed up and found in the former Vice President’s home.
The investigation comes after former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden both faced probes by the US Department of Justice into the improper handling of classified materials. Trump was involved in a controversial FBI raid in Mar-a-Lago last summer, while Biden is facing an investigation involving documents from his time as Vice President.
The search of Pence’s home is being conducted by FBI agents from Indianapolis and is not related to those other investigations. Pence was away
In an unexpected twist in the ongoing investigation surrounding the chaotic events of January 6th, Mike Pence appeared to have thrown a wrench in the case. The speech Mike Pence was due to deliver to lawmakers on January 6th, which was interrupted by a rogue mob of insurgents, was expected to be pivotal to his testimony.
However, in a letter to the special counsel, Pence revealed that he had been forbidden from testifying by none other than his own mother, known only as "Mother". It is believed that this "Mother" referred to is in fact his wife Karen Pence, who has been described as "hopping mad" when she heard that Pence had received a subpoena.
The letter revealed that Mother had told Pence "What if you're interrogated by a woman lawyer and you're alone in a room with her? Women are lawyers nowadays." Further,
Early Friday morning, the US military responded to a 'high-altitude object' hovering over Alaskan airspace. The unidentified flying object was tracked at an altitude of 40,000 feet and National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated it posed a potential risk to civilian flights. President Biden gave the go-ahead for the military to take it down, and fighter aircrafts were assigned to the US Northern Command for this purpose.
This is the second time in a week US fighter jets had to intercept a similar object. Last week, a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon launched into US airspace and was eventually shot down in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Carolinas. President Biden and his administration have been under fire from Republicans for taking so long to take down the first suspect.
This time, the object was shot down near the Canadian border in the frozen Arctic Ocean. It was unclear who or what the object belonged
AC Milan ended their seven-match streak without a victory in commanding fashion Friday night, snatching up a 1-0 win over Torino in the rematch of their Coppa Italia match last month. With pressure mounting on AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli, Olivier Giroud powered through to break the deadlock with his trademark goal, giving the Rossoneri the lead and the win.
The match between the two sides started off tense, but the once Milan finally pounced and put the ball in the net, it was Giroud who stepped up and powered the ball into the far corner of the goal past Torino keeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. The Frenchman had three shots on goal that night, two of which were with his head, making it his third time lucky.
The one goal gives AC Milan three points and puts them in third place for the
U.S. officials were forced to track, but not shoot down, a Chinese surveillance balloon that had been spotted traveling over U.S. airspace on Feb. 2, 2023, due to associated risks of harm for innocent people on the ground. At the time, Pentagon officials knew the balloon had antennas and solar panels to collect communications and that it was part of a much larger operation run by Chinese military to spy on over 40 countries across five continents.
This incident has caused lawmakers to demand more action and to question why the balloon was not shot down sooner. Using F-16s and F-35s, the U.S. was able to intercept the balloon before it entered American airspace, according to Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan. He expressed his frustration on the issue, sharing that he "chewed out" administration officials.
In response to the Chinese spy balloon, Senator Sullivan is

The FBI is currently searching the home of former Vice President Mike Pence in Indiana, according to a source familiar with the situation. The purpose of the search remains unclear, but it comes shortly after Pence was subpoenaed by special counsel Jack Smith, who is examining possible ties between former President Donald Trump and the insurrection of January 6, 2021.
A team of Pence's private attorneys are currently at the home in Indiana and speaking with the FBI during their visit. Additionally, the FBI is scheduled to search is office in Washington, DC, in the coming days.
Pence has acknowledged that "mistakes were made," and assured the FBI that he will cooperate. To prevent the occurrence of such mistakes, he and his team conducted an "extensive search" to ensure all documents found in his home and office were in compliance with regulations—which they believed to be the case prior to the FBI search.
On the other hand,
Former Vice President Mike Pence has been subpoenaed by the special counsel, led by Jack Smith, tasked with investigating Donald Trump and his actions leading up to the fatal attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The subpoena seeks documents and testimony specifically related to Pence's communications and interactions with Trump in the weeks and days leading up to the Capitol attack.
A source familiar with the matter told CNN of the subpoena, and a spokesman for the Special Counsel's office declined to comment. Pence's office likewise declined to confirm the reports to CNN. The subpoena was preceded by months of negotiation and ABC News was the first to report it.
Smith is tasked with investigating Trump's role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack and the former president's handling of classified documents after he left office. To that end, the subpoena seeks any and all information related to the 2020 election and the events of Jan. 6. The Justice Department also

The ongoing tragedy in Turkey and Syria is unbearable, with the death toll already standing at over 15,000. Amidst the ruins, rescue teams are still searching for survivors, desperately hoping to hear cries of life from underneath the debris. Among the living few, one victim's whereabouts have remained something of a mystery.
Ghanaian soccer star Christian Atsu's agent, Nana Sechere, had initially told CNN that the Hatayspor winger had been rescued from the rubble and was safe in hospital. However, on Thursday, Sechere took to social media to say that the news was false and Atsu was still missing.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, seeks to locate Atsu but with all the confusion involved, has run into dead-ends. In the wake of the
U.S. sailors from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2 successfully recovered a high-altitude surveillance balloon near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Official investigations by the Biden administration revealed the Chinese-tied technology found on the balloon was capable of monitoring American communications.
Senior State Department officials declared the unmanned balloon was part of a fleet of Chinese signals intelligence balloons that had conducted spying activities in 40 countries worldwide. The officials added the U.S. government will explore taking action against Chinese People's Liberation Army entities associated with the balloon's airborne incursion. High-resolution imagery from U-2 reconnaissance photographs revealed the balloon had multiple antennas and solar panels large enough to run multi-sensor operations.
U.S. Representative Mike Turner (R-Ohio) deemed the balloon incident a "crisis" on national security, while Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) used a
The agent of Ghanaian soccer star Christian Atsu confirmed on Thursday that the player’s whereabouts are still not known, in a devastating turn of events since the earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday. Nana Sechere told CNN Sport that Atsu had been rescued from rubble after being caught in the disaster, but has since had to reverse course due to a lack of further information.
The fate of Atsu, who previously played for the Newcastle United, adds to the devastation of the earthquake which began on Monday. Adding to the uncertainty, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey Francisca Ashietey-Odunton stated that her office is unsure of the 31-year-old Atsu’s whereabouts, and stated that they “are not sure yet which particular hospital or health facility he has been sent to.”
The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has risen to over 21,000. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described the quakes as the "disaster of the century." In Turkey, at least 18,342 people were reported dead and more than 74,242 injured, according to the Turkish disaster management authority. Additionally, in government-controlled Syria, state media reported 1,347 dead and 2,295 injured, while rescue workers in rebel-held northwest Syria estimated that over 2,037 people had been killed and 2,950 injured. The toll is expected to continue to rise.
In response to the tragedy, countries from around the world are delivering emergency aid to the two countries. France has announced $12.9 million in emergency aid for Syria and the US has committed $85 million in urgent humanitarian assistance for Turkey and Syria. U.N. aid has
The US Senate held the first public hearing on the Chinese spy balloon on Thursday, during which visibly angered lawmakers grilled defense department officials on when they learned of the balloon and why they waited a week to shoot it down. It has now been revealed that the Defense Intelligence Agency privately sent an internal report two days before the balloon entered US airspace, although the report was not flagged as an urgent warning and top defense and intelligence officials were not immediately alarmed by it.
Rather than acting quickly, the US chose to investigate the object and observe it for the opportunity to gain intelligence. It wasn't until the balloon entered Alaskan airspace and abruptly changed direction south that officials came to believe it was bell heading to cross over the continental US and spy on the mainland. The lack of urgency has spurred discontent from some Republicans, who have criticized the administration for not sounding the alarm sooner.

On January 27, the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) discreetly alerted the US government of a foreign object headed towards US airspace. However, the report was not given priority, and top officials that received it were not placed on any urgent alert. Despite the report, US officials instead chose to investigate the object, treating it as an opportunity for intelligence collection, rather than an immediate threat. Just one day later, the suspected Chinese spy balloon entered Alaskan airspace, quickly drawing the attention of US defense officials who identified the threat and took action. This timeline of events has raised the concern of some US Republicans who have criticized the Biden administration for not acting sooner.
The Chinese government has since admitted to the balloon's origin and issued a formal apology, claiming that it had been taken off course by the westerly winds. A series of related events has since occurred, including a closed-door briefing between US Senate staff
