Will Overwatch esports continue with the Overwatch Champions Series?

Overwatch esports will continue with the newly announced Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS). After the end of the Overwatch League, Blizzard Entertainment has partnered with ESL Faceit Group to create an open and inclusive competitive ecosystem for Overwatch 2 esports. The OWCS aims to offer a more open and accessible platform for players across North America, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, and Asia.

The OWCS will consist of multiple competitive stages, including online Open Qualifiers and Main Events, where players can earn circuit points to qualify for the international events. The tournament will culminate in two live, in-person international events, bringing together players from different regions to compete on a global stage.

The structure of the OWCS will be different from the Overwatch League's franchise model, as players in eligible regions will form their own teams and compete in open qualifiers. The summer major tournament will be hosted by DreamHack Dallas, while the finals in November will be hosted by DreamHack Stockholm.

However, some regions, such as Australia, New Zealand, and China, are not currently included in the OWCS. Blizzard has stated that they are working to add consistent Overwatch tournaments in these regions. Overall, the OWCS promises to create a new era for Overwatch esports while providing opportunities for players and fans alike.
