Northern Alabama is on alert this morning with a severe weather event expected to move through the region overnight. The National Weather Service in Huntsville issued a Tornado Watch until 2 AM Thursday morning and issued a Level 2 Risk out of 5 of severe weather including isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail. The tornado watch covers all of North Alabama and several counties in North-Central Alabama.
Strong to severe storms will move into Northwest Alabama that evening with a potential for strong tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center reported scattered severe storms being likely and isolated storms possible for Central Alabama areas.
Additional risks outside of tornadoes, high winds, and hail include localized flooding. A Flood Watch has been issued for North Alabama as the complex of storms move south and east. Residents are warned to be aware of their surroundings as thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall is likely during the late evening hours.
