Cargo Train Derails in Clark County, Ohio: Shelter-in-Place and Power Outages Reported

Early Saturday evening, a cargo train derailed in Springfield, Ohio. According to Norfolk Southern, the 212-car freight train was carrying 20 to 30 cars when it derailed at Ohio 41 near the Prime Ohio Business Park in Springfield. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The Clark County Emergency Management Agency has asked nearby residents to shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution, and Duke Energy's power outage map shows that more than 4,700 customers have been left without power due to downed power lines. Thomas Crosson, a spokesman for Norfolk Southern, said that crews are en-route to the site to begin the cleanup operations.
