Kansas City is abuzz ahead of the Chiefs and Bengals game this weekend, where football rivalries will be put aside in order to place bets on iconic foods. Kansas City Representatives Emanuel Cleaver and Sharice Davids wagered Kansas City’s finest BBQ against Cincinnati chili by challenging their new congressman colleague from Ohio, Rep. Greg Landsman. Although Cincinnati chili is iconic to Ohio natives, its recipe of cinnamon, chocolate, and cloves have critics across the country. Not to be outdone, in 1919, Dixon's Chili was founded in Independence, serving it up until 1961, at which point their chili recipe was cemented. Kansas City won't back down, however; locals have embraced the Chiefs and Kansas City restaurants such as Arthur Bryant's are issuing long-distance challenges for the Bengals to chow-down on some Kansas City BBQ. As Jay Hummel, a Kansas City marriage into Bengals fandom, puts it, it is truly a tough decision. So, who will you be cheering this weekend?
