The University of New Mexico and New Mexico State have had a fair amount of players get picked in the past years. However, the state has not had much success with players making it straight to the NFL. Brian Urlacher, who is considered one of the state's greatest football success stories, wasn't even born in the state but moved there when he was a child. Among the more notable NFL players born in New Mexico are Ronnie Lott, Norm Evans, Colt McCoy, Tommy McDonald, Alan Branch, and Zach Gentry.
