The Plano City Council recently held a meeting to discuss the possible restrictions on short-term rentals (STRs). This comes after a number of concerning incidents occurred in the city and surrounding areas. Neighborhoods have been dealing with loud parties, unruly behavior, and even a stray bullet that found its way into a 3-year-old girl’s playroom.
The council heard passionate pleas from both sides of the issue, those calling for an outright ban, and those calling for more reasonable restrictions. A majority of STR owners at the meeting argued that only a few bad owners were to blame for the recent events and that not all STRs should be labeled as dangerous.
City staff reported that there were currently at least 40 active STRs in Plano and that the police received nearly 150 911 calls for service to about 60 properties since last year. The mayor and council discussed possible measures that could be
