Biden to Take a Stand in State of the Union Address

President Joe Biden will deliver his second State of the Union Address on Tuesday February 7th, 2023 to a politically split Capitol Hill and a nation facing an uncertain economic future. After the GOP regained control of the House, Biden will be faced with the task of providing a unifying message to Americans. In his address, Biden will finally have to confront the issue of the Supreme Court, which he has been avoiding for months.

In June of 2022, the Supreme Court displayed its newly acquired conservative majority on multiple decisions which significantly impacted Americans. These included Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization in which the Court overturned the popular precedent of Roe v. Wade and two decisions which made it more difficult to regulate firearms and tackle climate change. Not only is Biden mandated to take action on this "activist Court" as some have started to call it; the circumstances surrounding the assembly of the conservative majority also gives Biden pause.
