House Republicans have announced their intent to proceed with an investigation into the purported business dealings of President Joe Biden's son, Hunter. The inquiry comes after a months-long rift between the GOP-led House Oversight Committee and the Biden Administration, and amid the abandonment of efforts to acquire records pertaining to former President Donald Trump.
Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, committee chairman, declared that the Treasury Department will make available "suspicious activity reports" related to Hunter and any other family members, but they must be reviewed in person and copies cannot be retained. The reports are filed when banks identify transactions with signs of money laundering or other possible criminal forces.
According to Comer, the documents will shed light on the relationship Hunter and his brother, James, had with the now-dissolved China Energy Company, thought to be an organizing part of Beijing's foreign influences campaign. The "Washington Post
