A roof collapse during a sold-out concert at the historic Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois has left one person dead and injured 28 others, with five still in critical condition. The tragedy occurred while around 260 people were inside to see metal bands Morbid Angel, Revocation and Skeletal Remains, with an apparent tornado having been caught on camera nearby. It was later confirmed by the National Weather Service that the collapse was caused by an EF-1 tornado that had touched down in the area, with Boone County authorities saying “a man lost his life, response was in minutes”. The building, which dates back to 1921, was condemned following the incident, with officials awaiting final determination from structural engineers. The owner of the theatre expressed devastation at the loss of life and subsequent injuries. The family of the deceased, 51-year-old Fred Livingston, Jr. have said they are still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
