Late Monday night, Michigan State University (MSU) was struck by tragedy after a shooting on its campus. In a closely coordinated attack, a gunman opened fire at two MSU buildings —Berkey Hall and the Michigan State University Union — killing three people and critically injuring five.
In an effort to contain the attacker, numerous police officers responded to the scene and were able to quickly capture the suspect after they contacted him off-campus. The suspect died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound before they were able to apprehend him.
MSU interim president Teresa Woodruff addressed the tragedy and offered her condolences, saying, “We want to wrap our warm arms around every family that is touched by this tragedy and give them the peace that passeth understanding in moments like this. We will change over time... and we cannot allow this to continue to happen again.”
