Starting Monday, a three-year project to repair Kennedy Expressway will begin, creating major delays for commuters and transforming the look of the expressway. The project, costing $150 million, will repair all 36 bridges between the Edens and Ohio Street as well as add new signage, LED lighting, and patch potholes in the pavement.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will close two inbound lanes of the Kennedy overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, aiming to reduce the amount of traffic on the road. It is expected that the delays will continue throughout the year due to lane shifts and overnight lane closures. IDOT recommends that commuters use public transportation during this time or seek alternative routes to their destination.
