Chicago Firefighter's Son Dies in Fatal House Fire

The tragedy of a tragic house fire in Chicago has taken a heartbreaking turn for the family. On Tuesday, a home on the 2500 block of North Rutherford Avenue caught fire, critically injuring a 34-year-old woman and her three young children, including her 7-year-old son. Ezra Stewart was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and died the following day at 6:25 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The fire broke out shortly after 9:00 p.m., but the family received an even more devastating shock when they discovered that the father of the injured family was a Chicago Fire Department employee who was actually on duty at the time of the blaze.
