Nor'easter to Bring Heavy Snow, Strong Winds, and Coastal Flooding

A major nor'easter is on its way to the Northeast, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding through Wednesday. The Weather Prediction Center has issued winter alerts for over 20 million people across the region, from New York City to Boston.

Wind gusts could reach up to 50mph along the I-95 corridor, and local snow totals could be as high as 24 to 30 inches in higher elevations. Heavy, wet snow is expected to fall at 2 to 3 inches per hour. Glen Field, warning coordination meteorologist at the weather service office in Boston, noted that "anything more than four inches of heavy wet snow will be enough loading to knock down trees, power lines, and lose power."
