A photographer based on Cape Cod captured a chilling image of a shark, frozen stiff, on Cold Storage Beach over the weekend, illustrating just how cold it was in the Northeast due to the polar vortex. On Saturday morning, temperatures dropped to a bitter -10 in Boston and -32 with wind chill.
Amie Medeiros, from Yarmouth Port, discovered the frozen shark when she ventured out to Cold Storage Beach in Dennis on Saturday afternoon. Upon finding the predator, completely frozen on the shore, she was filled with shock and awe. The shark was fully intact with gashes near its right fin and pieces missing from its tail, pectoral fin and teeth, likely caused by scavengers.
John Chisholm, a marine biologist and adjunct scientist at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, identified the creature as a male porbeagle shark. He noted that the shark must have died
