On Friday, the Pentagon took down an unidentified object in US airspace over Alaska at President Joe Biden's request. After a Chinese spy balloon infiltrated American airspace last week, the Pentagon is taking no chances. According to the Pentagon, the object was flying at 40,000 feet, the same altitude as the Chinese balloon, and posed a threat to civilian flight. The object was roughly the size of a small car, much smaller than the balloon, but officials could not be sure if there was any surveillance equipment on board.
Brigadier General Pat Ryder of the Pentagon confirmed this news and said that the US Northern Command, Alaska Air National Guard, FAA and FBI are now in recovery mode. White House spokesman John Kirby also addressed the press, noting that out of an abundance of caution, Biden had decided to order the object shot down. He emphasized that a fighter jet had carried out the task.
