The San Francisco Superior Court on Friday released a series of updates and materials on last year’s hammer attack against Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The updates included graphic body-cam footage, audio from police interviews with the suspect, the 911 call Paul Pelosi made while in peril, and home surveillance video.
The body-cam video shows officers’ rushed entrance into the house, while both Paul and the alleged assailant, David DePape, have a hand on the hammer. When told to drop the hammer by one of the officers, DePape says, “Nope” before catching the hammer from Pelosi and lunging toward him. The officers managed to subdue DePape and handcuff him.
Surveillance video footage captured by security camera outside the Pelosi residence shows DePape with several bags, including a large backpack. After removing the hammer from the bag, he used it to break a glass door of the back porch in an effort to enter the home.
Paul Pelosi’s 911 call reveals how he had to sound matter of fact while subtly requesting aid, then becoming more frantic when the dispatcher initially seemed unaware of the situation.
The attack on October 28th of last year was an unfortunate tragedy. Reports of the release of such graphic evidence serve to remind us that even those in positions of political power are still susceptible to such acts of violence.
