Villarreal will be looking to return to winning ways in La Liga this Sunday when they host Girona at Estadio de la Ceramica. The Yellow Submarine endured a 3-2 Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid in midweek, after leading 2-0 at half-time, but look to spur themselves to a bounce back win in the league.

Villarreal currently hold 5th place in the La Liga table, with 28 points from 17 games, while Girona sit 11th, having collected 21 points. Both teams come into the match on good form, with Villarreal unbeaten in their last six La Liga matches and Girona unbeaten in their past seven.

Although Villarreal have been strong at home this season, picking up 16 points from seven matches, Girona have had mixed fortunes away, collecting only six points from their eight matches on their travels. However, they will enter the contest off the back of a 2-1 victory over Sevilla in La Liga last weekend, with Yangel Herrera scoring an 88th-minute winner for the hosts.

Given the tight nature of the league table this season, picking up three points for either side could prove critical in their ambition for a European place. With Villarreal hard pressed to rebound from their midweek disappointment, expect the Yellow submarine to put up a strong fight against Girona, making both teams scoring a good bet.
