Under the Biden administration, expectations were high for climate action and promises of combatting the climate crisis. Unfortunately, President Joe Biden’s indications of support for ConocoPhillips’ Willow Project, an energy drilling plan on Alaska’s North Slope, threatens to set back the climate plans of the current administration. Supporters of the project argue that drilling for more oil and gas is essential, while others insist this will lead to increased climate impacts such as wildfires, hurricanes, drought and floods.
