House Republicans are preparing to protect former President Donald Trump as he faces a potential indictment. Following Trump’s announcement of a possible indictment, GOP committee chairs sent a letter to New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg accusing him of an “unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority”. The heads of the Judiciary, House Administration and Oversight committee called on Bragg to provide documents and testimony about his investigation into Trump. While legal experts have doubts about the wisdom of pursuing this case, Republicans have made protecting Trump their primary focus, with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directing relevant committees to immediately investigate any federal funds used to subvert democracy.
