Is AI really unstoppable, despite concerns about regulation?

Despite a recent call for an "AI pause" by the Future of Life Institute, businesses using AI continue to advance the technology with confidence, according to business attorney David Miller. He argues that AI is already embedded in many businesses and “the problem with the pause is, if in the US we find a way to pause it, the capital and labor will move to other places." While some have called for a more proactive approach to AI regulation, Miller suggests that regulating the technology could be difficult. Instead, he suggests that the courts, which addressed more than 100 lawsuits involving AI in 2022, will eventually establish some parameters. Miller offers that industry associations could also set standards for AI use, but this would require cooperation among competitors. Meanwhile, a global survey shows 65% of business and IT executives believe there is data bias in their organization and 78% believe data bias will become a bigger concern as AI and machine learning become more widespread.
