The Northeastern United States is bracing for severe weather as a significant storm system moves eastward after causing deaths and widespread destruction in the South and Midwest regions. This storm system has already caused a death in Sussex County, Delaware, due to a confirmed tornado that tracked eastwards over the state on Saturday evening. Dozens of others were injured and significant property damage occurred. There were also reports of downed trees and wires in the area. Widespread residential damage was reported across the county's western part. Eastwards, there is a severe thunderstorm watch for New York City and areas of northern New Jersey, western Connecticut, and western Massachusetts through Saturday night. Strong winds gusts up to 65 mph, sizable hail up to 1 inch in diameter, and even a tornado or two are possible. Additionally, tornado warnings were issued for areas north and south of Philadelphia on Saturday evening. As the monster storm moves into the region, Pennsylvania, New York, and northern New Jersey will likely experience severe weather with this storm. South Dakota and Minnesota are expected to experience the wintry part of the storm; they have been issued blizzard warnings by the National Weather Service.
