Why was Tucker Carlson's show cancelled at Fox News?

Tucker Carlson's show at Fox News was abruptly cancelled last week, with various justifications publicly floated. However, the reason remains unclear. One theory is that it was connected to the $787.5m settlement reached with Dominion Voting Systems, a voting machines company who brought a defamation lawsuit over the broadcast of Donald Trump's lies about fraud in the 2020 election. In new on-set footage published by Media Matters for America, Carlson can be seen calling a lawyer for Dominion a "slimy motherfucker" who "triggered" him during a deposition last August. Fox News and Dominion have both denied any connection between the settlement and Carlson's show cancellation. Additionally, Carlson's casual reference to "how white men fight" in a conversation with a guest sparked new scrutiny of the host, leading to his ouster. Carlson had for years been explicit about his views on race and diversity in America, embracing white nationalist arguments and attacking immigrants.
