National Education Association Pushes Out Resources on Presidents' Day, Student Proficiency in U.S. History Declines

The National Education Association (NEA) has come under fire recently after failing to update their resources page on Presidents' Day since removing it from their websites in 2020. The page once included lessons on American heroes such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, as well as their contributions to the United States, and all 45 presidents. For a period of three years, users have been redirected to the NEA resource library which provides resources regarding anti-racism, the indigenous people, and Black History Month.

A study conducted by the National Association for Educational Progress (NAEP) showed that student proficiency in U.S. history has steadily declined. In 2018, only 15% of eighth graders scored as proficient or above in U.S. history, a four-point drop since 2014.
