Residents of San Bernardino County in California were trapped in their mountain homes for several days this February due to a series of winter storms that blanketed the area with feet of snow. Prompted by the dire conditions, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in the county on Wednesday to mobilize state personnel.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department reported doing almost 100 rescues by Wednesday evening and thankfully, no serious injuries or deaths have been reported yet. About 70,000 homes and businesses remained without power and although the county is receiving a brief reprieve from snow this week, another storm system is expected to arrive this weekend.
Residents have expressed high levels of concern, repeatedly shouted "plow the roads!" due to the rapidly falling snow. County Chief Executive Officer Leonard X. Hernandez noted that the county could have done better in responding to the situation, and that the call for snow tires could
