Did Bayer Have to Pay $2.25 Billion in Latest Roundup Trial?

Bayer has been ordered to pay $2.25 billion to a man in Pennsylvania who claimed that he developed cancer from using the company's Roundup weedkiller. The jury in the trial found that the man's non-Hodgkins lymphoma was a result of using Roundup for his yard work over several years. This verdict comes after five other recent wins for plaintiffs suing Bayer over Roundup. The company has won 10 out of the last 16 Roundup trials. Bayer has stated that it disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal it, arguing that scientific evidence and regulatory assessments show Roundup to be safe. Roundup, which contains the herbicide glyphosate, has been the subject of controversy for years. While Bayer maintains that it is safe, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate as a "probable carcinogen" in 2015. This trial is one among thousands of claims made against Bayer in the US for alleged personal injuries caused by Roundup.
