On Thursday, February 2nd, House Republicans voted to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from the Foreign Affairs Committee in a long-standing partisan battle over committee assignments. In a 218 to 211 party-line vote with one GOP Rep. Dave Joyce of Ohio voting "present", Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy whipped the Republicans back into line after a handful of defections. All 211 Democrats unified behind Omar, who passionately spoke in defense of her place on the committee, bringing many of her colleagues to tears.
