On May 3rd, 2023, a fatal shooting incident occurred at the Northside Hospital in Midtown Atlanta. Eyewitnesses shared their terrifying experiences of hiding and running for safety as the shooting unfolded. The incident claimed the life of 38-year-old Atlanta resident Amy St. Pierre, who was later identified as an employee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Four other female patients were injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where they received treatment. The surviving victims were aged 39, 71, 56, and 25 years old. Two of them underwent surgery and were recovering in the ICU, and the third patient was treated by interventional radiology and also placed in the ICU. Except for the fourth patient who is recovering in the Trauma Center, the rest are still in serious condition. The suspected shooter, Deion Patterson, was a 24-year-old discharged Coast Guard veteran, who opened fire with a handgun in the hospital's medical imaging office waiting room on the 11th floor. He was found and arrested eight hours after the attack, hiding near a pool at a condo complex in Cobb County, as barking dogs alerted the neighbors. The hospital was closed on May 4th, the day after the shooting.
