Senator Lindsey Graham falsely accuses Democrats of advocating for late-term abortions as he struggles to find a cohesive response to Friday's Supreme Court ruling on abortion pills. Graham, who proposed a national 15-week abortion ban last September after insisting it was an issue for states to decide, became agitated during an interview with Dana Bash over the abortion pill decision. He claimed that Democrats wanted a law that allowed for abortions up to the moment of birth, but Bash corrected him, saying that the official position of the Democratic party is to codify federal protections for abortion. The 1973 Roe v Wade decision guaranteed the procedure until “fetal viability,” generally accepted to be at around 24 weeks’ gestation.

The Supreme Court's Friday ruling blocking restrictions on a widely used abortion pill spilled frustration among Republicans into the public. Republican Party members believe that the issue cost votes in the 2022 midterms, following the supreme court Dobbs v Jackson ruling that overturned Roe v Wade. Republican opposition to abortion remains strong despite Democrats’ stance of codifying federal protection for the practice.
