Bob Lee, a tech pioneer and former chief product officer of MobileCoin, was killed in a violent stabbing incident in San Francisco on Tuesday morning. Lee dropped out of St Louis University and went on to become a well-known engineer and software developer who contributed to digital tools such as Google’s Android and the Cash App. In 2021, he took on the role of chief product officer of MobileCoin with the aim of providing hundreds of millions of unbanked people worldwide with democratised access to digital cash. As of now, there is no information about a motive or suspect/s behind his tragic death. The police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed has expressed condolences in a statement, emphasizing her commitment to prioritizing safety in the city. However, with 12 homicides reported in San Francisco so far this year, Mayor Breed is facing criticism for not doing enough to tackle violent crime in the city.
