Early Tuesday morning, Michigan State University was rocked by a tragic shooting that left three students dead and the perpetrator dead as well. The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae, who had no known connections to the university.
According to police reports, the shooter had already been known to police, being arrested in 2019 on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, a felony. He later pled guilty to a misdemeanor for possession of a loaded firearm and was put on probation for a year and a half.
McRae’s sister, Melinda, spoke out about her brother to CNN, saying he had been socially isolated and that the shooting was completely unexpected and shocking to her.
Following the shooting, the court confirmed that McRae was released from probation in May 2021.
