Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost enacted a notice of intent, claiming the state may pursue legal action against Norfolk Southern Railway in connection to a train derailment that occurred early this month in East Palestine, Ohio. The incident released hazardous materials into the surrounding areas, causing a nuisance, damage to natural resources and environmental harm.
U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan is scheduled to visit the area on Thursday and said he will be “holding Norfolk Southern accountable” for the crash. In a Feburary 10th letter, the EPA detailed their authority to hold the railway responsible and outlined cleanup actions.
