At least 28 people were injured and one person was killed after the roof of the Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois, collapsed during a metal rock concert on Friday evening. The venue was hosting a concert by heavy metal band Morbid Angel when the roof caved in. The event coordinator estimated that 260 people, including guests, performers, and staff, were inside the venue at the time of the collapse. High winds and a powerful storm swept through the Midwest of the United States on Friday with winds reaching up to 75 mph in some areas. During a press conference, Belvidere Fire Chief Shawn Schadle acknowledged the severe weather in the region. He stated that OSHA and the state fire marshal are investigating the cause of the collapse. Governor JB Pritzker confirmed that he was closely monitoring the situation and directed all available resources to be made available. A Twitter user posted video showing patrons attempting to rescue people from beneath the rubble on the main floor. Morbid Angel issued a statement urging fans to "seek shelter and stay safe" while also canceling the concert.
