Possible Tornado Hits Southern California; National Weather Service Investigates

Southern California was hit by a possible tornado on Wednesday as severe weather conditions continued to wreak havoc in the region. The rare tornado hit in Montebello city, just southeast of Los Angeles, and led to damage of varying degrees to buildings and cars. The extent of the damage and injuries, if any, are yet to be established. The area also experienced more rain and snow, and lightning and thunder. Another possible tornado hit the city of Carpinteria in Santa Barbara and several mobile homes were damaged. Authorities have described the weather event as a “bomb cyclone”. The National Weather Service is sending survey teams to both cities to investigate the possible tornadoes. The NWS has urged residents to prepare for natural disasters by signing up for notifications, being aware of weather forecasts, planning an emergency communication and meeting plan and practice the plan.
