Russia Intercepts U.S. Drone Over Black Sea in Unsafe and Unprofessional Maneuver

At the end of Tuesday, tensions between the United States and Russia are heightening after an unsafe and unprofessional maneuver in which a Russian Su-27 fighter jet struck the propeller of a U.S. surveillance drone over the Black Sea.

The unmanned MQ-9 drone was conducting routine operations in international airspace at the time. The White House confirmed the incident, noting that it was the first of its kind to result in the "splashing" of a U.S. drone.

The U.S. European Command released a statement condemning the move, which they described as "a lack of competence in addition to being unsafe and unprofessional". However, Russia denied that there had been a collision, saying that the drone's own maneuvers caused it to crash instead.
