The Norwegian professional golfer wore a brightly colored shirt from J. Lindeberg that divided opinion among avid golf fans. Some praised the shirt's flamboyant design, while others criticized it for being an eyesore. Indeed, one Twitter user went so far as to suggest that Hovland's fellow competitor Tiger Woods should ask him to change his shirt before commencing play. Nevertheless, the clothing did not seem to affect Hovland's gameplay as he made eagle and three birdies in the first 11 holes, giving him a good chance of tying or beating the single-round record of 63.
