Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out against the hate attacks against Vinicius Junior, a Brazilian forward and one of the Black players of Spanish football. Since his arrival in Spain in 2018, he has been subject to racism, both on and off the field, most recently in a game against Mallorca. Last month, a bridge in Madrid bore a hung up effigy of him before the Madrid-Atletico derby. Calling it a "problem of Spanish football," Ancelotti believes not only that this issue needs to be addressed, but that Vinicius is unfairly being made the face of it.
Vinicius' teammates are also standing up for him. Federico Valverde has praised him for the values he holds and his joyous attitude on the field. The team has also noticed the high number of fouls Vinicius receives each game
