On Thursday night, the Ellison Eagles Boys Basketball team advanced to the Texas 5A state championship game with a 52-50 victory over the Mansfield Summit Jaguars at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Ellison is the first school in Killeen ISD history to compete for a state title in basketball.
The game was closely contested, with Ellison taking a three-point lead into halftime after a late 11-2 run. Ellison managed to pull ahead to a slim one-point lead late in the fourth quarter, and secured the victory with a late turnover from the Jaguars and perfect free throw shooting down the stretch. Deion Ware led the way for the Eagles, scoring 16 points in the win.
The win sets up a showdown between the two top-ranked teams in the state, as No. 2 Ellison will face No. 1 Dallas Kimball Saturday at 3 p.m. for the 5A State Championship. For the Jaguars,
