Biden's State of the Union Address Brings Both Hope and Doubt

In President Biden's first State of the Union address, he proudly declared that "though bruised, our democracy remains unbowed and unbroken". Despite the tumultuous changes of the last year, the country is managing to stay on its feet and make some positive strides. Inflation and unemployment rates have decreased and the Federal Reserve has started tightening its monetary policy; Ukraine was able to repel Russian aggression without causing international conflict.

However, according to an average of current polls, the majority of Americans still believe the country is on the "wrong track". In response to this sentiment, Biden proposed legislation to expand the child tax credit and invested heavily in policy reform and Roe v. Wade, appealing to both sides of the aisle. Although he addressed the nation's impending fiscal crisis, there was no plan to keep entitlement programs solvent nor any bipartisan agreements.
