For the first time ever, Florida Atlantic has passed rival Miami in the AP Top 25 poll, taking the #19 spot and leaving the Hurricanes behind at #23. The Owls have been on a winning streak that has stretched 19 games, finally clinching the top spot within the state.
Still, Miami keeps competing strong, led by esteemed coach Jim Larranaga. Although the Hurricanes (16-5, 7-4 ACC) lost a heartbreaker on the road to Pittsburgh Saturday, their split the prior week against Florida State and the Panthers demonstrates their strength in the ACC.
FAU (21-1, 11-0 Conference USA) will continue to attempt to extend their streak with two games on the road this week. Miami, on the other hand, will play three of their next four at home, and Larranaga points out that the crowd can make all the difference in those close games.
